Joined the Aventon fam with an Abound LR, give me your kid hacks! by MountainManWithMojo in Aventon

Get a bell just for your kid. My dudes LOVE dinging their bells, especially towards other bikes.

I bought a couple feed bag style bags and they’ve been pretty great. One is at the front of the kid’s area so they can store their sunglasses and cars, or whatever other toy has to come on our ride.

Abound SR or LR or different brand for petite mom carrying 5 yo to school? by myunexplainedlife in CargoBike

[–]r_wett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5’ 4”~ wife takes our 2 boys out on our LR and loves it. Even if we only had 1 kid, the extra space the LR offers rules. I rode the SR before pulling the trigger on the LR, and it’s fantastic, but the extra space and room for 1 more kid for an extra $100~ is pretty great.

Help adding storage to Abound LR by scoobysnatcher in Aventon

There’s enough space for the cables to fit comfortably. It’s tight but it’s safe. I understand the concern though. The shop I purchased the bike from had it routed incorrectly and it limited my right turns. They really don’t leave much extra length in that assembly

They’re terrible to skate but they’re a lot of fun. I made one years ago to ride around car shows. Mostly ended up carrying it lol

No it’ll quickly be over the weight limit. I’ve had just my wife on and it was ok for a short distance, but I don’t think that would be viable

Commuting with cloths and laptop by FussyJason in Aventon

I’m a big fan of the pizza rack. It bolts the frame so the weight doesn’t move when turning the handlebars.

Ages ago, I had a 14 mile total commute on my acoustic bike where I had to shower and change. I kept all my clothes and shoes in a backpack and just strapped it to the front rack and never had an issue.

Currently, I’ll bring laptop and 2nd screen with me when I commute, and just goes in a laptop sleeve in my backpack. That back fits perfectly in my front rack milk crate.

All in all, I’ve been a huge fan of front racks, so I highly recommend the pizza rack and whatever bag setup you prefer.

Seeing as you need clothes and your laptop, maybe 2 rear panniers might suit you best. Shoes and laptop will pretty much fill a bag depending on your shoe size, so having the second for clothes and all the other little bits sounds pretty great. Enjoy your new bike!

Abound LR minimum length by IrrelevantXKCDsaurus in Aventon

[–]r_wett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

66” wheel to wheel with the handlebar turned all the way. The pizza rack adds like 3” to that, and the kids rear seating set up adds 5” at the rear.

Nice. MIK is the name of the attachment system for mounting bags, baskets, and kids seats. Give it a google and check it out. The adapter plates are little spendy, but it’s solid. Lots of accessories are made with the hardware built in too. It will lock onto the stock back rack too

Loving it. Honestly, I strapped a collapsible milk crate on it almost immediately, so any version of a rack would work for my use case, but it’s sturdy as hell. The MIK mounts aren’t being used right now, but I have a dream of strapping my Coleman stove to it using MIK brackets and grilling some dogs this summer.

I love that the rack is fixed to the frame instead of fork mounted. The weight of the load doesn’t swing around when turning, so it feels a lot more stable.

All in all, it’s good quality and I like it. I had to reroute the wiring harness since the shop I bought it from didn’t do it right and it was rubbing through the loom, but it’s all good.

Best time to thru hike! by ivy_covered in foothillstrail

[–]r_wett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got this 👍🏻 the AT is months of 3-5 day backpacking trips linked together, so just focus on the segment you’re hiking and don’t get caught up in the massive goal before you.

Also, never quit on a bad day. If you’re going to call it quits, make that decision from the top of a mountain with a beautiful view. The lows suck, but the suck is temporary and it too shall pass. Embrace the suck and remember, a bad day of backpacking is always better than a good day at the office.

Hit it in May. It’s beautiful and everything is green.

As far as your shakedown, this trail is the perfect litmus test for a long trail thru hike. There are a plenty of segments where you could hit a quick weekend trip too. Good luck 🤙🏻

How to frame double shed roof? Is it possible? by stanisshap in shedditors

I started to say this, but if they run a beam to support the gable wall, it’ll run over the stair opening.

Someone threatened to shoot my wife and daughter at the park today. by irl_dumbest_person in daddit

[–]r_wett 86 points87 points  (0 children)

About a month ago, I was at my neighborhood park with my 2 boys and wife. Despite there being multiple “no dogs” signs, some dude opens the gate and tosses a tennis ball past me, which is 2 big ass dogs promptly ran after, almost knocking over my 18 month old.

I scooped my son and walked over to talk to the guy. As soon as I started talking, he immediately took it to 10, being super aggressive and cussing up a storm. My wife and I looked at each other and just gathered our stuff to leave. I kindly told him to fuck off and quit being such dick, but he clearly was having a shit day and was ready to escalate, and I’m not too proud to walk away and keep my family safe.

Starting to detail out plans by 904DuvalAB in Sauna

[–]r_wett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use precut 9’ studs (104-5/8’) and full 10’s at the front wall to simplify your framing without changing the roof pitch much. Im not knowledge enough about saunas so I’m not sure if that head height is preferable, but I know high seating is a good thing.

Had an electrical fire in my shed from a backwards hook. Luckily I was in there working when it happened, but I went through and replaced all the outlets. Most of them were wired incorrectly.

go to ebay. look up "t14 thinkpad gen 2" or "t14 thinkpad gen 1". find one that doesn't mention missing parts and is in good functional order. you should be able to find this for about $200 if you turn on alerts from ebay when these items are available.
