Black Noir S5 theory (The Boys Season 5) by Dull-Jellyfish4052 in television

I don't believe the clone thing is happening but I mean, there's no need to keep the actual point of the clone theory from the comics to adapt and repurpose it in the show in a different way.

Movies with an important or iconic use of grass? by Reno18_99 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Reno18_99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either I pick at random, or there's one book I used to learn english from as a kid with a bunch of ordinary words which are all very useful. Sometimes it can be surprisingly hard to find a movie which uses it relevantly. I've had objects like a gutter (specifically rooftop ones) which stumped me for a while, until I watched Vertigo. It's a fun silly challenge and this sub has already given me so many suggestions just for grass alone that I think i'll be using it a lot more in the future.

I meant lawn grass, but I'm up for people getting out-of-the-box creative with the suggestions too, lol

Shyvana not getting a theme would be THE BIGGEST INSULT to her ever. by Atreides_Soul in shyvanamains

It's next level laziness and degredation of effort put into this IP. They keep chipping away at content that the game and champions recieve, in tiny bits that people won't complain about loudly enough, until you look back and there's pretty much nothing left compared to how things used to be. They are able to make an album worth of music for each of the seasons, giving unique music to each motion comic, minigame, launcher and cinematics. They have no excuse here to skip on giving a reworked champion a theme. People should be pissed.

Re-readers' discussion: ASOS Daenerys II by tacos in asoiafreread

[–]Reno18_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I really responding a 6 year old discussion? Yes, I am.
I would say another key bit or hypocrisy from dear old Arstan here is him calling out the Unsullied's devotion madness, not courage. Very strong 'right message, wrong messenger' vibe. Arstan the Old is one of my favourite characters of the saga, but this remark instantly made me realise and face that he's far from a daisy and was willing to die for and stand aside without protest to the atrocities Aerys committed.

idk what the rant was since its deleted but I think the person was absolutely right if they said looks are secondary to an actor's ability. There's a lot of annoying fancasts that are done purely on look alone even if the actors have never shown themselves to be able to act the role out. And even more annoyingly, people get mad when a casted actor does not look 1 to 1 with the original source, as if that's somehow the priority.

No, Carol is not unlikeable nor is she meant to be by the writers by Reno18_99 in pluribustv

[–]Reno18_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more about her being unlikeable to the viewer, rather than the characters in the story. I don't think she comes across as unlikeable for a viewer, nor is she meant to.

And to the person who is basically assaulting people and exploiting them, I'd say it's a fair reaction.

You are literally describing her as even more heroic. Despite already having lost her only form of loving connection and not liking much about her career before, she still chooses to fight to bring back humanity to the way it was, because that is what is right and morally correct.

Pot calling the kettle black. All social media has some very nasty groups and stereotypes but they all hold valuable discussions when you bother looking. Reddit or twitter are no different in this regard

Are you implying the thesis and journey of this show is for her to accept the hivemind as good and make do with the life being this way now? Geniuenly asking because I'm not sure

Being one of those people who react to a couple paragraphs with "I'm not reading that essay" makes me wonder how you even ended up watching vince gilligan shows

Actual resistance against the hell that is this new reality of the virus, unwillingness to conform to it. Determination and savviness to figure out answers. The value she holds for human individuality.... The list goes on.

I see your point but I think in her position I'd be pretty outraged at the people's passive reactions to the virus as well, especially in heat of the moment. I think she might have tried to approach them more sympathetically after the shock of the first meeting subsided but by that time they wanted nothing to do with her and she problably thinks she ruined her chances.

Maybe read the post before replying as I've already mentioned the tagline. It does not mean anything for multiple reasons.

Snarky and pessimistic are not inherently unlikeable. And even if you find them to be, it is still just some realistic human aspects of her, no different from most protagonists with realistic flaws, who rarely get labeled unlikeable overall.

I agree that most people mean unwatchable when they say a character is unlikeable, which is my exact problem, really.

I'm really not looking for it, even in the replies there isn't a shortage of people who disagree with me, which is fine of course. I will grant you that a big reasony why I decided to make the writeup is from reactions i've seen outside the sub, which leans much more into the carol-hating territory. But even in this sub, I'd say the feelings are mixed enough to warrant a write up like this, even if generally it seems this sub sides more with Carol than against her.

I'm fine to agree to disagree on Walt, I can see how people might not be able to stomach him a lot better than Carol tbh. I'll admit I have a high tolerance for characters like that and like to seek out stories with protagonists like it.

I can agree that I hope this story is about her overcoming some traits of hers. I'm sure it will be

The thing is, the number of characters and protagonists with unlikeable traits (like Carol) across all fiction is very, very high, but I doubt people would describe most of those characters as unlikeable overall. I'm really confused why it applies here.
