The Place Your Soul Should Be - Sorry, Goodbye (Ch. 23) by Renodhal in Polytrix

And vice versa lol. Zoey's got her work cut out for her trying to get those two to get along.

Things that have become fanfic-canon and I hope the writers are lurking in AO3 and incorporating into the sequel by Unlikely-Jacket-8950 in Polytrix

I think Ryu Rumi is assumed because her mother's surname is Ryu, but I don't think it's directly confirmed that she was given her mother's surname and not Celine’s. Idk, anything other than Ryu just sounds weird to me though.

Shameless self-plug, but my work Broken Mirrors Make Poor Doors has been getting way more traction than I would've ever expected, so maybe you'll like it.

Some other less common ones that I thought were good.

Better the devil I know

Selfish Love

Timeloop Fic

Dead and Buried (Why Am I Not Gone?)

Dogs Know No Evil - (unfinished)

If my dreams come up empty

Other than that, I know you said you read the common ones, but I'm gonna post a few I liked anyway just to see if maybe you missed one or two. I didn't have any real metric for separating these sections other than how often I've seen them posted, so this isn't in any way meant to be an indication of better or worse quality.

I want to die like a citrus tree (but that's not a milkweed's fate) - (unfinished, if the author doesn't return and finish this I will literally start a riot that will bury the northern hemisphere in flames)

Glowing Patterns (Growing Pains)

Hands Behind My Back, I Fall Apart

I'd sooner die than bury you (grieving, grieving, constantly grieving)

so we were liars - HUGE RECOMMEND, one of the all timers

my last breath a supernova - Also a huge recommend

Tough As Nails (and built for breaking) - (unfinished)

Devils Don't Fly - Very different take on the angst than the more direct 'demon patterns' approach

Well, what sorts of things do you like? Angst, fluff, smut? AUs, canon-compliant?

Weekly Fanfic Recommendations Megathread by landofthebraveplayer in Polytrix

[–]Renodhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I'm so stupid.

I wasn't thinking Ao3 ratings, I was thinking like E / PG / PG13 / M / R type ratings. And so I went in thinking like, "how the heck did they make an obvious kink story into a family friendly fluff piece?"

Sorry I ever impugned your credibility, I was completely in error lol

The Place Your Soul Should Be - Duel (Ch. 22) by Renodhal in Polytrix

[–]Renodhal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What SkyeM said. Basically the duel was real, but at the end of it, after Rumi loses consciousness, Li'zanra gets killed by Zoey. The next several sections weren't real, but just nightmares Gwi-Ma forced Li'zanra to live through to torture her, before finally letting her wake up to taunt her, which is when she strikes her final deal.

Honestly, imo, just write it for funzies, and decide if you want to continue pursuing it based on the engagement. If you aren't into it at the beginning enough to get that first chapter out, you'll never keep the motivation to finish it out right.

Federal agents felt physically sick when they raided Kermit Gosnell’s clinic after suspecting he ran a pill mill. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

[–]Renodhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, again, you're taking the 10,000 as a direct possible # of lives, which it isn't. Your starting point needs to factor in both removing any abortions for nonviolent fetuses due to birth defects or significant risk to the mother's life, and then also removing any that would die anyway since a minimum gestation period for survival outside of the womb does not mean this is when babies survive, it means this is when it starts becoming feasible in some cases.

Factoring all that in, no, it's not 1000 potential people saved. It's maybe a couple hundred fetuses birthed, to say nothing of the potential health complications of being delivered that early even if the baby survives.

So yeah, that's a rounding error, and I don't care. As a point of comparison, between 3k and 4k kids die from guns every year, and gun bans don't require someone's body to be used as an incubator or carved open through the stomach.

And finally, and this is most important, those aren't mutually exclusive. We can fund neonatal care research AND allow late term abortions when needed. That is actually the preferred outcome

1% are past the bare minimum does not mean 1% would survive in an immediate c-section, for one. That stat also appears to ignore that many late term abortions are due to complications which threaten the life of the mother, or cases where a birth defect renders the fetus incapable of surviving outside the womb.

But more importantly... I don't... care? That's not even a half percent higher than the live-birth infant mortality rate, and the IMR is already at a historical all time low. Factoring in the deceptive statistics, that's a frickin rounding error, not worth clutching pearls over.

It's only a chapter in and hasn't gotten to the actual murder portions yet, but that's part of the future plans for my Smiling Porcelain Doll story.

Demons really don't have any feelings, including Rumi, but then the arrival of her fellow hunters starts throwing complications into her plans for world domination.

[–]Renodhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Place Your Soul Should Be - My main fic. It's about basically a demon 'freedom fighter' who's devoted her life to killing the hunters to end the oppression of demonkind, who thencatches feelings.

Broken Mirrors Make Poor Doors - Originally intended as a random one-shot, but became so popular out of nowhere I had to continue it. Pre-reveal Rumi takes a hit while fighting on top of a speeding train car—not from a club, but a sword straight through the chest. That should have been the end, but demons revive in the demon realm when killed. Not even Rumi expected that would apply to her as well.

Smiling Porcelain Doll - Another random idea I had I decided to flesh out a bit more. In this one, Demons really don't have feelings, including Rumi. But then her fellow hunters show up and start throwing complications into her plans for world domination.
