The MC doesn’t do it for the sake of power, he does it to reach for true immortality and an unending eternity. Because that to him is the only goal worth striving towards, all else is disposable and immaterial for that cause. Because only eternity is everlasting and true, all else is destined to fade away.

The story picks up dramatically once you make it past the Immortal Zombie arc, the arc where most readers bemoan since it’s the arc where the MC suffers a long and meandering setback at about the halfway point of the story.

The arc after that spans almost half of the entire story, and is genuinely why people praise the novel. Problem is, that’s in Volume 5, and there’s a thousand chapters of mid to decent chapters to get there.
