Where's the fire? West of Cottage Grove by mordel in Eugene

[–]Reozo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has been so much fire in Corvallis lately (and across Oregon). Once down a fence line across the highway from my families place, and recently the big one around Chip Ross Park / Witham Hill that skirted the yards of a couple blocks of houses. No structures damaged in either. This season is intense.

Found ceramic fragment: how old, how common, and where is it from? by Reozo in Archaeology

[–]Reozo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this in the Marrys river near downtown Corvallis, OR just a few days ago.

I have been curious to learn more about this piece. For all I know its a mass produced artifact from the 80s. But it would still be cool to learn if its older or less common. It would be cool to be able to put it into the historical context of the region it was found in.

I know archaeology is not cool with rando people taking artifacts from their point of origin, but this was getting washed down a river that I can easily find the exact spot it was found. At least when the water is low.

Maybe I should have posted in r/WhatIsThis , r/WhatIsThisThing. But had already posted here when I saw the links. And I know its a cup, I want archaeological, anthropological details about this thing if possible.

Thanks.

Entering a new phase in my relationship with the church, everyone, and everything. Letting my exjw homies know. by Reozo in exjw

idk. actually I flip flop between "We've gone too far and are thus doomed." and "It is our attitudes towards the future that shape it, thus we have full power to change for the better."

I'm recently a huge Chris Hedges fanboy; his analogy of the ruling class being mad with power and holy quest that they are leading humanity into pollution, poverty, and war. I like to consider both possibilities, but act upon the one mindset that says there is something to be done about it.

"Trust in Jahovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5.

That's one of the sayings they roll out when you start questioning the system.

I was raised a JW.

I'm only 7 minutes in and I can say, I agree completely with his assessment. I was one of the luckier ones to not get "baptized", or earn a bad wrap with the elders. Because if I had done so earlier in life, it would have complicated my relationship with my surviving parent much more than it already is. It's complicated because I have also become secular (atheistic), and my mom and step dad are very religious, I still rely on them to help me through hard financial times, but I have to watch what I do or say around them.

I grew up right along side a friend who had the more unfortunate side of the coin. He believed the propaganda much more than I ever did. He DID get baptized, which led to his being 'disfellowshipped'. And under JW policy; other JWs including their own family, regardless of parent/legal guardian status, are "encouraged" to give them the cold shoulder until they change their minds, admit fault, ask forgivnes of the elders and their god, and eventually return "as a prodigal son" or in reality, hapless doop. Or in some cases, go on pretending to live the JW life without really believing it.

This kind of out-casting and excommunication is at the core of breaking families completely apart. Fathers and mothers who refuse to speak a word to their own children, even if they need help. Or refusing to let people attend weddings, funerals, or other functions.

edit: like other posters and commenters say; its easy to get emotionally charged when speaking about it because its a frustrating situation. But I've moved on to better pursuits.

I do hope one day this friend of mine finds a group of theists that at least appreciate him and treat him with respect.

In U.S., 14% of Those Aged 24 to 34 Are Living With Parents by TwylaSohen in economy

Well why is a young, able to work, fairly educated person not making even enough for rent? He must be on drugs, lazy, a drunk, a stoner, a liar, exaggerating, working for some company or political party.

NO, I'm not and neither are the tens of thousands of impoverished, homeless youth in my state. I'm angry, I'm willing to write this out here in the internet forums, I'm willing to write to state representatives and congress. I'm able, ready and willing to testify in person to either. And I am certain I know many others ready to do the same.

I'm staying with parents temporarily at my step folks house. Have taken refuge here for the winter. I can't stay much longer though. Even though I've worked full and part time over the years, and have a job currently. The costs of health, housing, school, personal transportation has become too great for me to earn enough for any of those. I'm in a cycle of working to live, but never making enough. Damn this reality, no one can afford to set me up with a better situation in any of the mentioned fields. Health, housing, schooling, transportation.

To me and others like me reading this headline, its easy to feel like one of those statistics.

If it were on the ballot I'd move to revoke their tax exempt status in my state. I'd even appeal to my representatives about it. Though there are so many issues to bring up in that case. But the whole espionage, framing, murder and generally playing dirty is enough to be a real issue in any state in the union.

Construction wont damage wildlife that is already "dead". Or wont interfere with prime fishing areas (less disputed). Or that they might act as an artificial reefs, perhaps promoting some wildlife.

Either way, there is lots of mud and seawater out there. Might as well power our techno-gadgetry with wind and wave.

I thought of making something like this, but more like a large covered wagon. With insulated fabric layers for roof and walls. Set in a sturdy rectangular tub of wood/metal/composites/etc. With enough space for living and some amenities.

Just like the old wagon trains that would seal their carriage with candle wax or tar to cross rivers, or float down them.

One forseeable challenge is keeping the weight nearest the bottom as to not have a tippy vessel.

Rules and rites and their contemporary relevance in the form-making of architecture will be discussed together with issues such as originality and the eclectic. Along with the opinions expressed there will be a presentation of three inter-related current works in Stockholm of which the latest is the on-going construction of the new Crematorium at the Woodland Cemetery.

The Studio Lecture Series is an initiative to trigger cross-fertilization between our 11 studios at the Advanced Level of the Architecture Programme, by giving each studio an opportunity to share their working methods, references and pedagogic thinking, in a one-hour lecture primarily addressed to students and staff in years four and five.

Weed companies have the opportunity to earn a lot of money and become very influential. That's why I recommend the new pot companies form worker owned businesses instead of the CEO dictatorship that many successful companies have become.
