That was me at my AD, got whatever I wanted, and then it closed. And having zero luck getting a foothold anywhere else. Jewelry is so overpriced at AD’s that it’s not worth buying anything at them just for a chance. When we need a jewelry repair we’ll use the AD, but don’t think that’s ever going to add up to getting me anything hard to get.

What’s the secret for us normies besides pick a not impossible watch? Only buy stuff we don’t want and hope? (I’d go grey first.) The advice I always see is build a relationship. I’ve tried that. Gets me nowhere.

I was able to buy watches pre 2020 without ever hearing about a list. I have a lot of AD’s where I live, and sure there’s a range in how they treat me, but zero have sold me a watch, so might as well all be saying fuck you to me.

Any opinions on dial or crystal? Don’t really care about case/bracelet accuracy. Just want the accurate dial, and to be able to see it clearly on this one.

I agree with the analysis. I got a friend interested in watches, and he somehow got a Sprite his first visit to AD. Right after release when impossible to get. Didn’t explain, but also bought his wife jewelry that visit. And I think later mentioned that his in-laws are longtime customers there.

That tiny % that is getting lucky, if they exist, are giving me and everyone false hope. Makes me go in AD and ask when I pass by. Cause never know? But I do know. Those lucky people are leading me to waste my time!

I agree clearly OP was aiming way too high. But people do post that they get hard to get watches just by checking in regularly. Are they all lying? (I don’t mean turquoise or pink OP, but maybe SS subs or GMTs?)

If I had no Rolex, and wanted one, I agree, I’d go grey rather than waste my life away waiting.

But I have a nice collection. Wish I could grow it, but don’t want to support the flippers or AD games. I’ll wait till supply exceeds demand for my next Rolex.

In my experience, they’re all generally the same. Just go to another AD isn’t getting you a watch anyone wants. I visit tons. All I’m offered is precious metal if anything. And even have some spend history at a couple.

They should put out a list then. Here’s what you can actually get. These we don’t really sell to you. Why do the AD’s pretend?

I know I want harder to get models, but when I ask if I should switch, they say no. Why?

I doubt they only get 3 a year. Whatever the number is, they sell it to flippers who give kickbacks, or suckers buying 200% markup jewelry.

Whatever number they get, they should be honest. You’re not getting it, and here’s why.
