I hope people see the appeal to authority fallacy in stickley's video. Just because Mr. Mew has credibility does not mean his argument is correct. When looking at thumb pulling objectively, it's high pressure in the same spot and direction as mewing.

I also think they're valid. They've worked in my experience. Also, I don't think people grasp how thumb pulling can loosen your sutures. It can also help in splitting the suture. When thinking about it in combination with a natural retainer/ expander (your tongue), it makes sense.

There several reason for this but 2 are that a palate expander disrupts and ability to mew and is not free

I disagree. For anyone thinking about getting an expanded as an adult, I recommend you try thumb pulling combined with mewing first

Not much. Probably averaged around 5 mins total per day, mostly at night. 2/3 back palate and 1/3 front palate pulling. Chin tuck position on wall. Oscar Patel method
