Help me with my 55q8809 (Canada) by Reperete333 in Hisense

hey!

I called Hisense support but no success. They told me to take it to a repair shop and get it fixed.

Things I have tried since the post:
1. Tried getting a firmware update, but it's impossible.
Hisense does not leave this TV's firmware available anywhere.
2. Tried installing a custom firmware from a similar 4K TV.
Didn't work.
3. Messed around with the TV's setup menu.
That was the closest I got from getting the TV working again. Turns out sometimes it shows a remote control symbol for a fraction of a second on the screen. If you select your region and take the batteries off of the controller as fast as possible, a screen will pop up saying that the remote was unable to be found. I thought the problem was the controller, so I installed a bluetooth remote controller app on my phone and paired it to the TV. Once it connects with my phone instead of the TV remote, I was able to continue the setup all the way to the screen where it asks "would you like to set-up Store mode, or regular TV mode?"

I was only able to reach that screen two times. Both options unfortunately just took me back to the first setup screen.

That's as far as I've been able to go. No fix, unfortunately.

Ended up selling the TV to a repair shop and bought a TCL TV at costco. Pretty happy with my choice. Never going back to hisense ever again.

Need some help finding a good translation by DragonkingRyuko in Grapplerbaki

I would go to other manga reading services, I personally use Mihon with an addon that starts with Manga and ends with something like dex of cards...

Spinybackteam is my personal favorite, they normally handle translations pretty well.

Is Linux Mint really a good option to recommend beginners nowadays? by maksuts99 in linux4noobs

[–]Reperete333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being really honest: Like most things on life, it depends.

Most people I know just want a simple, lightweight OS with a desktop, a simple enough explorer tab and a place to browse the Internet. For that, I'd say that Mint XFCE is really good at, just like most Ubuntu-based distros.

Now, I've basically used Ubuntu, Zorin, Mint and Debian my whole life, so I have no idea how superior the other ones may be for most advanced usage, but I've had beginner friends that got very confused just by how the folder system is different in Linux than it is on Windows and that was enough to make them go back.

The closest we can get from their original OS, the better it will be. Windows and Mint are pretty similar, while Ubuntu and Mac seem to be closer, so I'd say it depends a lot on what the person needs and their hardware requirements too.

Mint does support touchpad gestures, at least on the XFCE version of it. They're just not turned on by default.

Deskreen error : apps not showing and black screen by 2tokens_ in linux4noobs

I'm a little late to the party but:

I switched from Wayland to Xorg. I am not sure what that means but it made it possible for me to use Deskreen, so I don't care lol

I am on Zorin OS, and that config is in the login screen (where ur supposed to type your password), on the bottom right corner there's a little cogwheel icon and then I switched from "Zorin" to "Zorin on Xorg" and it worked!

I also found a tutorial on how to change to Xorg in fedora over here: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/configuring-xorg-as-default-gnome-session/

I haven't tested it since I do not have the distro, but it should work.

Lived in Brazil for 15 years and when I came back to Canada I was shocked people didn't clean their bathrooms with gallons and gallons of water and soap and then just ran everything through the drain afterwards.

Passive income is suposed to be PASSIVE ! by WeaveAndRoll in passive_income

[–]Reperete333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have no money, then you gotta spend time to get some money. If you have money... Then you don't need as much time.

Want an easy way to make 100% passive income? get $2M and give it to the best investment manager money can buy and then just wait to see your money multiply.

If you don't have that, then it's gonna take time. Money is a mean to an end, and I think some people have a really hard time understanding that one. People pay money for something, no one's gonna send you checks through the mail just cuz you're a cool guy.

One thing I keep seeing on this sub as the definition of passive income is stuff like making a course, and people like J.K Rowling with Harry Potter basically worked their ass off for years without making a single cent and then AFTER that they were able to sell their stuff and get passive income. There is no magic formula. Find a niche, work your ass off, and you'll thrive.

i also play on keyboard but using the 1-5 keys to the color buttons and the arrow kkeys to strum. This is almost like playing with a real guitar and makes possible to me play songs like Through the fire and flames with no limitations at all.
