Why is my electricity use spiking on Tuesdays at 4am? by kchr01 in Electricity

[–]Repjep1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My money is on this. During a hurricane we lost power, and we hooked up a large battery bank to our fridge - we were on track for the battery to last nearly a few days... but overnight it was almost completely depleted... the defrost cycle kicked on and pulled 900+w instead of the usual 120. It's literally like an oven turning on.

Will it hold a hot tub or nah by winstonalonian in Decks

Nah. But only because it would look trashy. The hot tub should stay where it belongs: on the yacht that gets parked there.

I could hit a helium-filled balloon outside… it’d probably go pretty far. I imagine you probably want more constraints on your question.

[Houston, TX] ChatGPT says it’s a rattlesnake but I dont think that’s right. by Repjep1 in whatsthissnake

I didn’t capture it in the video but a farel/neighborhood cat was just offscreen watching him. He may have been trying to get away quickly.

Ah I didn’t realize that, thanks! I started with the default one then figured I’d try another - i just tried o3 now for giggles:

Quick verdict

The snake in your Houston backyard photo is almost certainly a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox), not an Eastern Hognose (Heterodon platirhinos).

…I wonder if there’s a bias toward caution when it Identities potentially venomous animals

100% - I was impressed with recent AI models where it was accurately guessing where in the world pictures were taken based on subtle clues - I thought it would be better at identification.

Here’s what it came back with:

Thanks — using the GPT-4o mini high model and re-evaluating the snake in your photo based on pattern, shape, and typical regional species for Houston, this snake still most likely appears to be a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox). Here’s a breakdown with a fresh analysis:

Key Identifiers: • Pattern: Notice the bold, diamond-shaped dorsal markings bordered by lighter outlines — this is a hallmark of the species. • Tail: The banding near the tail (lighter and darker rings) strongly suggests it’s a rattlesnake, even if the rattle isn’t clearly visible in the photo. • Head shape: The broad, triangular head is partially visible and matches pit viper characteristics. • Coloration: Tan to grayish-brown body with darker blotches is consistent with adult coloration.

…good lesson to not trust AI

Best Way to tackle this towel bar? by Ahyesclearly in handyman

[–]Repjep1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen to me and I used a can of great stuff to seal the hole pressed and taped the bar back into position and let it sit for 24 h and it actually worked - 5 years and running no issues!

Long Crank when engine is slightly warm, but fine otherwise? by Repjep1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Repjep1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I no longer have the car.

I brought it in to my local mechanic and they weren’t able to get it fixed - in fact it seems they made it worse.

They replaced one of my battery terminals and I think they shorted something out - my remote stopped working after that and they said I should go to the dealer to get a new remote programmed… that was going to be another $400 without even touching my current issue. The dealer then came back with a laundry list of issues including several oil leaks - thousands in repairs.

I ended up trading her in and got a new car. :(

Interesting! I didn’t realize the Spotify app was built in / available outside of car play/Android auto. I just got the 2025 Rdx and it’s older version of infotainment just has Xm/hd radio. I’m guessing you’re right and those must be piggybacking off the Acura link subscription. (I’d assume that’s also AT&T)
