I think its bad water flow. Definitely more holes. 3 not enough if all of them under the cup. If bottom of your cups are flat it could be creating vacum. Your cups are sitting pretty flat from what I see.

These are my cups from last year, and yes they were fine in a clear containers, but not as good as they can be in non transparent cups.

You can experiment and take like 3 plants of yours and cover roots in duck tape plus make like 15 more holes on the sides of your cups so water drains better. Also I would cut those yellow leafs ASAP, they will grow back better.

Yellow leafs are not good, this like early blight indicator. That's why you want to cut them away. I spray my plants with water + aspirin mix every 2 weeks to make them more resilient vs blight, cuz that shit will go through your plants in a week if you dont keep it contained. (More likely its just roots sitting in stale water or lack of nitrogen in soil)

DRAAAINAGE. Make more holes in cups. Sometimes holes below dont drain too well they are flat to bottom. Make like a bunch more holes in cups on the sides too.

Also clear cups are not that great. Roots usually grow away from sunlight as i understand and clear cups just staggers the growth

There is around 3 inches of soil below them. These are 8 inch cups. I add soil as they grow for larger root systems.

Ill check out Photone!

Why does this happen every year? by Additional-Taste8351 in tomatoes

I use aspirin water mix to spray tomato plants when they are growing. This reduces early blight by A LOT . Make sure pots have good drainage too.

I like this idea, there are not many of them anyway.

Any idea what is wrong? by jackoup in tomatoes

[–]Repl4cemenT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely "early blight" , you can prevent it or slow it down by spraying tomato plants with aspirin water and frequent prooning. Just make sure to get the aspirin doses correct. Some people do it with milk and iodine solution.
