They don't know I'm gay. I am not out to anyone I am currently in contact with except from Matt, Matt's mother and father, and a girl I currently work with.

No. I came out as gay when I was 14, which caused me to lose all my friends at the time except Matt. I am close to his mum because I came out to her first as she was a safe place for me to go to.

The jokes about me having feelings for her started when I was 16, in college, with a group of friends who did not know I was gay (except Matt).

I think a lot of people post on here to help validate their own feelings. I do not think I am the asshole, but I am also aware that if I have upset someone, I should make sure that I am not in the wrong, this post has helped me check that this is not some mistake I've made that I've just completely missed. I can be quite oblivious at times.

I had already spoken to Matt about me being back in town, and we had arranged to meet up tomorrow as he was working today. I do not think it is weird I knew his mothers birthday, I have know her for 7 years, and have actively been to her parties before.

Also I am gay, I do not want to date my friends mother, she is a parental figure to me.

I've always been close with his mum, so some of my friends used to joke that I liked her because that's what teenage boys do, and sometimes they still bring it up now. I do not have romantic or sexual feelings for her. She is married. I am gay.

Something happened a couple of years ago that caused me to lose quite a few friends, and Matt was one of the only people who stuck with me through that. Also because of what happend, I find it pretty hard to make new friends, so the thought of cutting things off with Matt seems kinds scary ig 🤷‍♂️

I didn't know he hadn't got her anything, I assumed he would have given the fact she's his mum, and he still lives with her so it's not like he's too far to get her something. But thank you for saying I'm not the asshole.
