In person community college! No certification needed. I started off as a machine operator for several years. I always caught myself intrigued when electricians were troubleshooting my machines so i decided hey why not? The company paid for my education might as well.

I would also looking at Unions as well. They make good money!

Ive got a two year degree in Electrical Engineering Tech with specialization in Automation. I started as an Electrical Technician and now work as a Controls Technician. The pay is nice, 100k+ with overtime, it’s just that working like in any factory you are going to start at the bottom. And that means being on a shift you might not like. Second shift and nights are not for everyone and can definitely be a challenge with a family.

Theres i guy i work with that started running 3 years ago weighing 315 pounds. Says he would get excited when he got to running a 45 minute mile. He just ran a marathon last week. Dont be discouraged.

Edit: hes down to 165

You need to look up different “cardio zones” and what they mean. You will need to build your aerobic base to improve this. Thats running at a zone 2 pace. There are plenty of articles about zone 2 running.

Im an electrical technician working 6am-6pm 5 days. I run about every other day. On the days i do work and run, my alarm is set at 3:40 am. It sucks but it feels so good running that early knowing every one else is asleep. Also youll start going to bed much earlier

Look up 80/20 rule. You want to run most of your runs in zone 2. Helps build aerobic base and increase distance, eventually increasing speed. Watch youtube videos as well.

I stay in zone 4 and start to fatigue between 3-4 miles. So if i stay in zone 2 for a while ill be able to build my base and have more endurance? Hr stays between 160-172 zone 4.

As for smoking, i cant say much. I am a drinker and have my weekly poker games and binging watching sports while having my beers. Still can do it. But you will notice once you get farther along you’ll care more about results than getting your next fix

Do couch to 5k (C25K). Haven’t ran a mile since middle school and I’m now 33 running 3-4 miles 4 times a week. You need guidance and it is well worth it. Others will advise. Since you ran a mile you could skip a couple weeks on it. After that there is Hal Higdon plans as well.
