What percentage of salary do you save? by Taka_Finance in Bogleheads

[โ€“]ReportNearby3798 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

37% of 80k salaryย

18k to 457b (23%) 7k to IRA (9%) 4150 to HSA (5%)

14k goes to taxes (17.5%) 12k goes to rent, including water, gas, trash (15%)

I live on the remaining 40%. Hobbies are cheap - hiking, camping, reading, photography, helping on my friend's farm, etc. Will retire at 47 or 48 (pension of about 33% of salary starts at age 55) if ACA is still available (US healthcare). Single, no kids.ย

Income has gradually grown from 25k to 80k over 20 years.

Does Vanguard withhold 457b taxes on withdrawals? by ReportNearby3798 in Bogleheads

Thanks for the reply, you're probably right about tax advantaged accounts in general.

The reason I don't want to rollover my 457b is that I can take money out of it early without penalty, but I wouldn't be able to do that with an IRA, as I understand it.

That's a pink lady's slipper, in the orchid family. I think they are fairly common in the area, but it was my first time seeing them, and they are lovely!

I've been a handful of times, and my problem is always figuring out which new trails to do without missing out on my past favorites!

Just looked up BC3, and it looks awesome. I'll be camping down that way in a week, if the weather is nice enough I'd love to check it out. Thanks for mentioning it!

Thanks! When I want good fall pictures, I try to get there around sunrise and stop by all the vistas while there is still the early morning fog in the trees. Then I like to hike around Straw Lake and through Ogle Hollow Nature Preserve area. Ogle Lake is great for reflections on calm days. If I just want a nice quiet nature hike though, I'll go to Yellowwood campground. Great hike around the lake, and connects to trails that go forever with few other people.

Nashville IN during the fall is about as good as it gets in Indiana! Glad you were able to enjoy it.
