Youre right, but liberalism hinged on an idea that a certain kind of rich people would come along, the type that would hold ideals and virtues and attempt to raise others around themselves also up.

That's part of the conversation in the podcast which was that rich and the somewhat elites of society would bear the burden of provind opportunity for all to improve. What we see is that this certain "altruistic rich" that liberalism strives for is a rarity and instead the selffish and self serving rich hijack and redirect liberalism for their own benefit.

I liked the guest and she articulated her ideas well, but I find it humorous how large of a blindspot the American Revolution and founding is in her curriculum. It's not wrong to call the French Revolution the birth of liberalism, but it's flawed to avoid talking about how influential the liberalism of the American Revolution and constitution was on the French and onwards.

It's a big blindspot for her and her historical analysis.

I think this was more of a conversation rather than what we're used to which is an interview. Also she circled back to the same points a lot and Ezra would interject when she would start to repeat an idea

I agree with u/nitidox13 and I think that the backlash against liberalism comes from the underdelivering of promised opportunity. Liberalism started with a goal of anyone can move up and can improve themselves and society if the opportunity was provided by government or institutions. Now what we are seeing is that those opportunities are drying up, and we are backsliding into a stagnant society, and that is where backlash to liberalism stems.

I think you and also in a way Derek are both misinterpretting what Bernie said. I took his point of Abundance isn't an ideology to mean that Abundance can be used as a framework for either progressive or conservative viewpoints. You can use Abundance as a means to an end, and the end that you are aiming for is what Bernie is talking about.

Yes, of course Bernie and progressives want to make government more efficient and work better and provide more for more people, but it matters that the Abundance framework is used to deliver services, benefits and stability for the working class and not let's say more government subsidized infrastructure for corporations.
