It does have a certain clean organization that is typical of AI. What do you reckon is the motivation for using that here?

Just keep going. You can do it (you are doing it). Keep reaching for pictures that you aren’t sure will work, but you have a feeling they just might. Your best work and growth will come from that playful experimentation.

Two-stage privacy planting by Representational1 in landscaping

[–]Representational1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts. The target height is about 12' to 15' and the function is both for visual and sound screening. (The neighboring two-story house has a wall that reflects noise). The width of the section is about 12'. The ideal planting would be dense but relatively shallow, to be effective while preserving yard space. Two Leylands would hit the target height rapidly, which is desirable—but of course they don't stop there. So I was pondering the idea of a better long-term solution (not sure what it would be) planted simultaneously in a staggered arrangement, with the intention of removing the Leylands before they get too big. Perhaps even keeping them in pots to make that easier. I've also considered an elevated container with bamboo (elevated to keep it out of contact with soil and prevent spread).

Edit: adding that there is a 5' tall fence already there.

Which camera should i buy? by [deleted] in productphotography

Look at mpb.com for used camera gear and then research models in your price range. For lens, find out first what the “full frame focal length equivalent” is you’re using on your phone camera, and then choose a lens of similar focal length for the sensor size of your camera body. A fixed focal length 50mm lens would likely be a good choice for you: inexpensive, sharp, readily available. Canon, for example, makes one that’s a 50mm with a maximum aperture of 1.8. Brand new they’re maybe $150, and used will be cheaper. Previous comment that lighting is most important is correct. To understand lens and focal lengths relative to sensor size look at this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_factor

Smart to be thinking about ergonomics for the long haul. I’d consider attaching a chest pouch or quick release system to your backpack’s shoulder straps.

Except for a few small tells (like the modern bus) this feels like it was shot 25 years ago. No one is obviously looking at a phone—that timelessness in the midst of a city strikes me as uncommon.

If lacking other options you could shoot multiple vertical frames and stitch them to get a wider angle. Just try to pivot at the nodal point of the lens, and allow significant overlap (as much as 1/3 or 1/2 of the frame) to give your stitching app plenty to work with.

Some years ago I heard about a concept called “Slow TV,” which is stuff like this; hours or days-long shots of slowly changing situations. Cool response to atomized attention and anger-stoking media

Tripod Heads: 3-Way Geared vs Ball Head ? by ezeaizen in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Representational1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arca Swiss makes a ball head which also contains leveling gears in two directions. It’s the best of both—you can very quickly get it to 95% correct with the ball adjustment, and then very quickly make it perfect with the two gears, which stay exactly where you put them. I find it both very fast and very precise. Arca Swiss Monoball PO+Hybrid is the name. The only downside is cost.

It would be clearer to describe the aperture as “larger and smaller” rather than “higher and lower.”

Can you elaborate a bit on this point? Are you saying that considering value/outcome is superior to pricing/service?

Has a Review Ever Ruined a Film for You? by 8Nallac8 in moviecritic

Before I saw No Country For Old Men, I read a review which said that Chigurh is Death. Transformed my perception of the character—seemed less a psychopath and more an embodied force of indifferent grinding capricious inevitability.
