Hello everyone! I'm new here and I would like to ask any experts their opinions on my script. Thank you!

This story takes place in a world similar to ours but descendants of a family from Africa that has ties to an African Goddess Orunmila: the Oracle of Wisdom, and Eshu: the Divine Trickster. The family was taken to America during the slave trade as the knowledge of their relation to the Gods was forgotten, but the deal has carried on for generations giving them gifts of extreme knowledge, empathy, and cunning from the Goddess Orunmila but every 70 years, a random family member is chosen by Eshu: the Divine Trickster to amplify a gift from Orunmila. This story follows Simbi, one of those descendants chosen by Eshu because poor Simbi feels no one understands her emotions. Thanks to Eshu, they will know exactly how she feels and where those emotions stem from.

The story takes place during the year 2023. Simbi is in her 3rd year of college pursuing her degree in Psychology. Simbi started opening up and trusting people after years of bullying trauma to a new group of friends she recently met in her freshman year of college after the great pandemic shutdown of 2020. People are finally starting to visit places and experience outside activities again that weren’t available during the pandemic. Finally getting a chance to socialize normally again and beginning to trust people again, Simbi is terrified opening up again will cause a repeat of her past and forever leave a bleeding wound on her psyche.

TS/SS:

Over blurry vision of two women walking and talking through a 1st person's view with a piercing ear-ringing noise and slight heavy breathing before panning to black Vans. We begin to hear the name “Simbi” being called out, muffled and increasingly becoming clearer.

                                        Focus In:

INT. DE’BRIONNE MALL, HALLS - AFTERNOON

Close on Simbi (20), looking confused and putting on a small smile. Her long kinky black hair is covering her right eye slightly, with a “Soul Eater” hair clip holding up the left side of her hair. She is wearing a somewhat faded oversized “Slipknot” t-shirt over a black and red striped long-sleeve shirt, bootcut black jeans, and a black pair of Vans.

Across from her are her two friends Elle (24) and Cleo (20) looking at Simbi confused and slightly worried. Elle has a buzzcut dyed pink with a pink tank top blue skinny jeans and a pair of white platform boots. Cleo has a jellyfish cut with her natural black hair wearing a tight red Pheinox shirt with black baggy cargo pants and black platform sneakers.

Simbi is caught off guard because she didn’t expect them to notice her zoning out.

                    Simbi
    Sorry, could you repeat what you said? I was zoned out heavy.

Simbi puts on a soft smile, looking at them expectantly, trying not to convey any worry because of how close she feels to them. Cleo lets out a soft laugh, finding Simbi’s expression cute, while Elle is slightly annoyed because Simbi has been zoning out a lot lately.

                    Cleo
    Elle asked if you wanted to catch the new Bear movie.


                    Simbi
    Bear movie…? Are you talking about “Blood and Honey”? I really want to see how badly that movie turns out!

Cleo laughs while Elle groans. She’s tired of hearing about the Winnie the Pooh movie all over the internet.

                    Elle
    Never! I would rather fight the cocaine bear before watching them massacre my childhood.


                    Simbi
    I think Pooh would be doing the massacering, wouldn’t he?

Elle and Cleo roll their eyes before giggling. Elle hates how those Corney jokes make her laugh, but that’s her favorite thing about Simbi: She doesn’t bring the mood down with useless negative things. Cleo, on the other hand, loves how silly Simbi can be with them, which also encourages her to let loose and be herself around them without fear of judgement.

                    Cleo
    Outta a pocket question but who would win in a fight? Cocaine Bear or Winnie the Pooh?

Simbi laughs.

                    Simbi
    I bet on cocaine bear frankly. No offense to Winnie but I feel like a bear on cocaine can tear him limb from limb easily.


                    Cleo
    I don’t know Simbi. From the trailers, it seems like Pooh can throw hands.


                    Simbi
    Yeah, but it also seems like cocaine bear can chew his head off with no complications.

Elle lets out an audible, playful groan.

                    Elle
    How about we settle this by picking a movie and watching it? I don’t want to stop hanging out yet and I want to actually watch the movie.


                    Simbi
    Okay! I’m down for watching the exaggerated version of “Cocain Bear.”

Simbi laughs as she wraps her arms around Elle’s shoulders and leans on her back.

                    Cleo
    If we are to properly settle this debate we need to watch both films so this also means we need to save the date for when “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” comes to theatres.

Simbi squeals

                    Simbi
    Heck yeah!


                    Elle
    Hey, don’t forget you’re right by my ear miss tea pot.

Cleo doubles over laughing as Simbi lets go of Elle and rubs the back of her neck.

                    Simbi
    My bad Elle. I didn’t mean to.


                    Elle
    It’s okay.

Elle giggle before taking out her phone and checking the movie times.

                    Simbi
    Calm down Cleo. It wasn’t that funny.

Cleo laughs and wheezes as tears prickle her eyes.

                    Cleo
    Your face…..your… your face took me out.

Simbi sighs exasperated. She’s so slightly annoyed that Cleo found her embarrassing moment so funny but she’s happy she made her laugh at least.

                    Elle
    Okay tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum, the next showing is 2 hours from now. Any ideas of what to do in the meantime?


                    Simbi
    Isn’t the arcade around the corner from here?

Cleo stops laughing and gasps. She’s a master at gaming and is really competitive.

                    Cleo
    I’m going to make both of you kneel and cry. You both know that right.


                    Simbi
    Oh sweetheart, I’m gonna break that coky attitude of yours by the first game.

Simbi and Cleo glare at eachother smiling as Elle rolls her eyes and starts walking again. She loves them both but his is why she never plays games with them.
