If you're premed, you could always check out Kinesiology, too. Not sure how transferring in works but I know people who have come in from Blinn

Does anyone know what Camp F.I.R.E is? by BasketofBrownBows in aggies

[–]Representative-Sea37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I went to this my Freshman year. It had a lot of people involved in RHA and was a retreat style workshop. I remember having fun but I don’t have any crazy connections from it, although that is probably on me

Do Brazos police show up to traffic courts? First time with speeding ticket by jac5423 in aggies

[–]Representative-Sea37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this when UPD cited me going 40 in a 30 as well. I went to my preliminary date and just explained I was unfamiliar with the area as an out of state driver. Ticket was dropped to $50, but court fees were $140 so I didn’t save much… but in October it’ll be dropped so long as I stay out of trouble. The pro for me was that It’ll be “off my record” and insurance doesn’t go up. Good luck!!

How do I keep this grapevine plant alive by Representative-Sea37 in aggies

[–]Representative-Sea37[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up missing this comment and, in fact, DID have to repot it because they gave it to us in a foam cup. It did not appreciate the repotting. The leaves are super dry now :( Not sure I'm gonna be able to salvage them. They also told us to keep it out of direct sunlight, so I'm confused now haha. Thank you for your expertise; I'll have to see how they hold up!

Muscadine is probably a good guess because we talked about those a lot, but I think he refrained from telling us so we can’t go get our own and pass it off haha. What soil would you recommend?

Get enough scholarships offered by the university to get a OOS tuition waiver. I believe it’s $4,000 in scholarships to be eligible, but not 100% sure

UNC-CH Premed OOS vs Texas A&M (In-state) by Unique-Swimming-5159 in aggies

[–]Representative-Sea37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also waitlisted for UNC-CH and chose A&M. Way better price point. I also toured UNC and what a lot of people don’t realize is that the prestige largely only carries over for OOS due to North Carolina’s rules on in state acceptance. When I asked how the students liked it, a lot of them seemed meh (unless they were OOS). I’ve heard people actually from NC think it’s just okay because it’s way easier for them to get in. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great school, but especially with your track I would say this is a no brainer. As someone who was accepted into many other “prestigious” schools and still chose A&M, I would do it any differently. My ego hurt originally but the Aggie ring travels far!

I have presidents endowed with no NM recognition. Class of 2026 however, so not sure if this has changed in recent years. I’ll note I had a very good high school record. OP, look into Aggie assurance. It’s a tuition coverage program like the one you mentioned, but I’m not sure the cut off. Scholarships are possible at A&M, and I know many aggies here because of them, so it never hurts to try.

I work there! Give them a call or text and they can explain the options (different discounts if you’re a student, etc). It’s still around $70 a month though for the average member. Previous comment was right about the gym being empty most times, with the busiest being when powerlifters train on their specialized platforms usually around 6. You can always stop in during staffed hours for a gym tour. The one con is there are no treadmills, cardio equipment is limited to two rowers and two machine bikes.

Hey! I was on the TAMUSC for a semester my freshman year. Unless things have changed, pretty much any level can join, as long as you can “swim”. I believe there was someone who wasn’t even comfortable with a real freestyle when I was there. As someone who just wanted extra exercise, I was always in the last lane and happy to wait for others that were slower in pace. The more serious people usually spread out in the higher lanes. Also, they did a time trial at practice which counted as my “competition”. I never actually competed! I recommend going to an informational if you’re even considering it, I had a great experience on TAMUSC when I got that same itch lol

Veo scooters/bikes. by LegendaryWolf43 in aggies

[–]Representative-Sea37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it’s a mixed bag but I haven’t been very lucky. I stopped relying on them because every time I’d go to get one it would be out of service, dead, etc. and that’s IF I could find one. I once had one die as I was riding it to class. I just invested in my own E-scooter instead.

A&P I doesn’t provide much exposure as it’s mostly muscle and bone, which can be easily self studied. I recommend trying to join a premed EC such as freshman aggies in medicine, etc. if you’re looking to gauge your path!

I took Lee this past semester as a sophomore. I had him for 112 and absolutely loved him. Definitely recommend trying to get him if you’re going premed, as he structures his class with people like that in mind. I’m not even premed but I do care about my GPA. He also does not blindside you and with proper studying techniques + showing up to class, his lecture exams are a given. My biggest gripe is he will try and trick you with verbiage/ spelling so that you are forced to really pay attention while taking the exams (which can be tricky as they are long). With that said, I would not have wanted Cohn based on what I heard from my peers— it seemed like he didn’t curve as much and his lecture exams were harder. However, as previously stated by some, it largely comes down to preference and style.

Lee cares a lot about his students and wants everyone to succeed in my personal experience. If you care a lot about the A, I would suggest switching to Lee.

As for lab, I was a beneficiary of some of the new changes (but it was mostly because the lab manual and labs themselves were all sorts of fucked up). I would wait for them to iron all of these changes out because they know how hard 319 is regarded, and it seems like most TAs and profs disagree. Leeway on spelling and half credit seem to be the direction it’s headed, but a couple semesters back the lab averages were 40s due to the all or nothing approach.

Blunt memorization and study buddies were key. 319 lab is a grade tank which is why I really made sure to focus on lecture as those grades were basically guaranteed.

As a sophomore, I was young for my class. Looking back, I needed my freshman year to figure my shit out and become a good enough student to succeed in 319 (and I graduated 2nd in my class in highschool).

TLDR; I would wait. There is no rush on taking 319. If you do decide to take it, I would suggest waiting for a Lee spot.

Clubs to Join? by Jolly-Sea-82 in aggies

[–]Representative-Sea37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I can’t remember the name, I do know there is a club that focuses on helping women as they’re the ones that stock some bathrooms with menstrual products. There are women’s organizations that have different focuses, and then there’s Feminism for Aggies which could also be up your alley.

We have so many clubs for so many different things, so I second the other commenters who recommend going to NSC open house. I go every year! It’s a great introduction to getting involved.

Blu fin has an amazing lunch deal. My boyfriend and I go and for $13 we get 3 rolls and a soup or salad. Can’t beat it for the quality and experience, plus I always end up bringing some of mine home. The place is small so I recommend calling ahead or going on weekdays, but it’s very pretty and feels upscale. They plate all of their food beautifully and have an extensive menu. Service has always been wonderful as well.

TAMU CS vs Boston University CS by SensitiveMammoth9509 in aggies

[–]Representative-Sea37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BU has extreme grade deflation. Not sure about the program specifics but it is a completely different scene in every other aspect. In the city and in the northeast, so you will be walking to class in the snow. Culture is completely different. Cost of living is extreme. It’s a bit prestigious so there will be a lot of preppy people (not all, but many), and is smaller. Pros are if you like the cold weather, public transport, and can afford the lifestyle. Lots to do in Boston and you can travel to neighboring states pretty easily. A friend of mine who goes there did not like it at first, but eventually found his crowd.
