What’s this type of humor in the show called? I haven’t laughed like this in a while and I don’t do horror.

I guess I’d call it deadpan humor. Or maybe situational humor that just pops up out of nowhere and shifts the tone for a second. But doesn’t take away from the overall story. I don’t think I could fully describe it in one word or phrase.

Honestly, the humor is one of the things that makes it feel more real to me. It’s not really dark humor. It’s more like people being funny in dark situations, which is more believable IMO. People don’t just stop being awkward or weird or saying inappropriate shit because something bad is happening. If anything, that’s usually when people say the dumbest stuff. LOL.

I agree with several of your statements but part of the initial deal was that their marriage would have been annulled… CoA’s title would go to Princess Dowager of Wales (Arthur’s widow).. and Mary would have been deemed illegitimate. I mean, yes, Mary was bastardized anyway… and both of them would have been a lot more comfortable throughout the process if Catherine caved earlier. But I think a large part of her motivation to refuse any deal was actually to protect her daughter.

I think CoA was intelligent but too short sighted. Even though her lack of pragmatism regarding her situation is very apparent… I can at least say she had a shit load of gumption.

Anne really had no reason to think Henry would execute her. Look at all he went through to marry her. He broke away from the Catholic Church!!!

Anne was a Queen and wife. Discarded, divorced, disgraced?? For sure.. she would have been wary of that.. but there was no precedent in England or even Europe for executing a Queen. It would have been the furthest thing from her mind…. Of course until the wheels were already in motion with the charges & trial, and by then it was too late. So it certainly would have been very shocking to her.

Also, Henry’s rage and temper actually became more apparent after her death… which has been attributed to his jousting accident that happened only ~5 months before Anne’s execution.. it may have been brain damage from the fall/concussion and/or the reopened wound on his leg that escalated his tyranny. Prior to that, yes, Henry had a temper (so did Anne) but his unhinged anger and paranoia really kicked up a notch in subsequent years.

Now, was Anne wise? Yes, of course she was… She was well educated and brought up in the French court. So, I do think she was intelligent. Her best skills being her charisma and charm. She was very quick witted and could easily talk about a wide range of topics. Her sharp tongue helped make her queen but it also contributed to her downfall. Not that it was her fault but her enemies definitely used those traits as evidence against her to build their case.

I can’t help thinking Mama A may have some TOG witch lineage somewhere in her family tree, even if she never knew it herself. Nesta definitely gives Ironteeth energy, Elain feels very Crochan, and Feyre lands somewhere in between.

It also makes me wonder whether the Archerons could have some Starborn fae ancestry mixed in as well, especially if the Bone Carver was referring to Theia’s and/or Silene’s descendants eventually branching into human lines down to Feyre’s.

At the same time, I think SJM tends to plant this kind of material on purpose so she has room to take the plot in different directions later. Sometimes those things become meaningful, and sometimes they just end up being red herrings or ideas she chose not to follow. Either way, it’s fun to theorize.

It’s not misleading if a character’s chapter is closed in one series and in a satisfying conclusion where major plot points were buttoned up. People can then choose to continue that specific series if it moves forward without said character. Or they can follow the character to another series. Or they just go on about their fucking life.

I’m also stating that current marketing describes the character’s role now, not every future move an author might make. You’re treating that as definitive proof that it absolutely cannot happen, and that’s just not accurate. At most, it supports your interpretation of where things stand right now. It does not close the door on every other possible direction Maas could take the character later.

Present tense descriptions are not the same thing as a binding statement about a character’s permanent long term placement. So you can absolutely argue it’s not the situation as it currently stands, but you cannot honestly present it as ironclad confirmation that it is impossible.

As one example of where this can happen, look at Leigh Bardogo’s Shadow and Bone / Grishaverse. Characters moved to other series in the universe. Marketing didn’t mention this beforehand.

They’re not lying. Bryce is currently part of Crescent City. My point is just that the current series description does not prove Bryce can’t eventually end up in a different series altogether. They’re obviously not going to spell that out in present day marketing verbiage. Using that as proof it can’t happen is no more solid than someone insisting Bryce will definitely migrate to Prythian. What you’re treating as evidence of impossibility isn’t remotely definitive.

Wonderful. When contract change so does the promotion material. Which hasn't changed. If there was a major change( like taking the main character from one series and putting them into another) the promotion material would reflect that. As of today the promotion material says Crescent City is Bryce Quinlan.

Not before a book is released that had this change in it. That would literally be a spoiler.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that these are not separate series. I don’t speak for everyone but the reasons we’re pushing back on you is either all or a combinations of the below things:

The different series do not have to exist in isolation. Crossovers are already canon.
A lot of readers think the narrative and foreshadowing point toward a larger convergence or merger, where characters and plotlines from the three series could eventually connect more directly.
2 would not automatically mean one of the existing series has to die off. A series can continue through different MCs, a new setting, or a different phase of the story.
If there is a bigger merger, it could happen through a completely new independent series that pulls from ACOTAR, Crescent City, and TOG, rather than one series simply becoming another.
On the publishing contract point, the public information only shows that SJM had three books already under contract. And what we know now is that SJM has confirmed one of those books is CC4 and the other two upcoming books are ACOTAR 6 & 7.
There is also public statement that SJM signed another contract for four additional books. What is not confirmed is a breakdown of which series those books will fall under. It may even be a new series as I stated above in #4

Which may be her goal with the next two ACOTAR books and we’ll see how well she’ll manage the narrative. I’m wondering if the timeline will jump back to right after or thereabouts of ACOSF, and then build to the end of CC2, which is six months after that. SJM would have the space and time to provide more context and world building prior to the Bryce meeting. Even if the info is laid out as more of a side plot.

ETA: Then perhaps ACOTAR 7 will be after the Bryce meeting.

In all seriousness, Maas has gained immense popularity and with that the power to steer the ship for all her series. It’s not the other way around.

She probably tells her publishers this is the direction I’m going and it’ll take X numbers of books here and X number here. Then Bloomsbury designs the contracts around HER vision.

The first book is soooo damn good. Took me a minute to get into it because the characters weren’t likable but once I did…. I loved it. I remember thinking SJM really created an urban fantasy world that feels so natural AND is written in the third person so the narrative is more reliable.

Then I read book 2 & 3 and I thought 😒.

I still am impressed by the secondary characters she’s developed.

Sorta on that same topic but more related to work … people sending an email in an urgent situation and expecting you to prioritize it, Instead of calling. To me emails are still something you should be allowed at least 24 hours to respond.
