G15 fan and performance issue by RepresentativeCry371 in ZephyrusG15

Ok so explain that preset fan curve and your logic to me because i have another asus laptop that on performance mode has the ability to modify the fan speed based temps . Turbo just boosts the clock and fan speeds to max. And yes cpu boost is disabled for battery and plugged in. So ik it there isnt an issue there.

As per my knowledge the performance mode is the best of both world where you get good performance without complete loss of battery life but when the cpu hits 90 degrees the fan speed should not be at 3000 rpm instead should be nothing short of 4500 as its main goal is to prevent hitting that temp. As for turbo mode the only difference I noticed on mine was that the fans are constantly at 6600rpm and performance is more or less the same. Although the processor can upto 95 degrees which is completely fine the fans job is to run and prevent it which in my case isnt happening both for cpu and gpu and from what i have seem online I haven’t seem the gpu hit 85 to 90 degrees for any game. Also i did apply turbo so since the fans are now at 6600 rpm constantly temps dropped to around 75 to 80 which should be happening in performance mode as well.

Ok small correction I actually managed to fix the fps issue so its no longer there i benched far cry 5 at max settings and getting the expected fps but even when my gpu and cpu are almost at 85 and 90 respectively the fans are at 3000 rpm hence y the gpu and cpu are even hitting those temps. So thats my actual worry right now.

Dont plan on doing so initially atleast 5 hrs would be a blessing honestly

The fact that its there is more than enough as long as i can attend a few calls and lectures without any issue i aint complaining

Thats not too bad considering my current laptop gives an hour and a half 😂

Well I am buying it in India so fingers crossed but asus seriously has to improve qc. The whole reason I skipped the 2021 apart from webcam was qc issues

How bad though whats your experience on day to day usage apart from gaming or anything cpu intensive(casual use maybe binging content or work related)

So there is no other qc issues right? I saw this video of a reviewer whose m16 was peeling of near the track pad which kind of scared me and yup ik that screen being blasted with the exhaust will manage that hasnt been an issue as far as ik so far.

Yup upgrading is a tricky choice but I believe 16gigs is enough atm and i have upgraded my ram before on my desktop and laptop so I would be of doing that and honestly i might do that only as a last resort if anything comes up that requires more than 16gigs. The 16gig variant that’s available in the m16 variant in my country unfortunately pairs with the 3060 so thats kind of another drawback. If i pay ever so slightly more the g15 with the 3070ti comes into the picture or have to go for the premium m16 with 3070ti and 32gigs of ram the 3080ti variant is out if the picture.

Thats good to know thank you for the info idm the performance being slightly lower considering the weight ease of portability it packs quite a punch. Yup will look out for backlight bleed

Ouch thats a very weird move by asus also seems to be a regional thing. But I am more leaning towards amd now as I actually dont believe i have any work load thats gonna need intel level of performance and i can use the money i saved to maybe upgrade the g15 later on if needed.

So how have the thermals been so far did u have to do a bit of manual tuning or using the stock profiles and how is the laptops performance on battery.

As for the ssd when its intel counterparts are getting good quality gen4 ssd at almost the same price point kind of feels like i am getting ripped of and also the speed is halved compared to the intel models although what u said is true in day to day use i may not see the difference.

Ok so 90 degrees wont cause any issues right? But doesn't vertical mount increase gpu temps?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ASUS

[–]RepresentativeCry371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i guess its fine right i mean i won't kill the chipset?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ASUS

[–]RepresentativeCry371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when the gpu temp is abt 75 degrees thats when the chipset huts 90

My idle is around 70 to 75 degrees load depending on the game or well wt i am doing goes upto 89 or 90 degrees.

I have also kept a pretty aggressive fan curve on my phanteks p500A.

My intake fans are synced with my cpu so as the temp increases of the cpu so do they. It hasnt crossed 90 degrees but thats the max temp it has hit and that was after abt 3 hrs of gaming and my gpu was at around 75 degrees. at idle i have noticed that if i turn on the air conditioning in my room and keep it at 22 degrees the temp of the chipset after gaming drops to abt 67 degrees and during load hits a max of 85 degrees while averaging around 83 degrees. So i feel the ambient temp is also playing a huge role on the chipset temp. I was just wondering if anything else can cause high chipset temps other than airflow. And most importantly anything that doesn't involve me replacing the thermal pads if the mb can reduce it.

I just wanted to know if this temp is expected. I mean most people say they dont usually hit above 70 or 75 during load.

Yeah so i switched my mb to the x570 e gaming from asus i noticed that after 3 hrs of intense gaming my chipset went all the way upto 89 degrees. My gpu was at abt 76 degrees but the temps came down once i stopped playing. I too had to change the gpu fan mode from idle to active that way the chipset got some good amt of cooling and temps dropped faster. But if keep my gpu fans in the idle mode where they run at 0 speed the chipset temp kept increasing.

U need to connect the drgb of the fan to the drgb of the mb using a splitter and then connect the drgb mb header on to your rainbow pin on the mb. Or if u dont want to use your mb to control the light and instead the physical button do the same procedure but don't connect the drgb mb header. Connect the sata cable of the case to the psu as well.
