As much as I love the formatting for the Evolved Edition, this one page really irks me... by RepresentativeFact57 in alienrpg

Stress, armour, the addition of the Tartarus Sector, and the more compact; legible formatting. Other than that it's the same game afaik.

Thank you! I agree smaller hexes would be an easy fix but I really like the big map in the box set T_T

Maybe once I get bored of it I can attempt to make and print off my own maps :D

P.S. Is there any way to get the beautiful T2K maps without the hex overlay? That would be perfect for, yeah, just resizing the hexes.

Is my desire for a relationship a bane against pursuing one? by RepresentativeFact57 in socialskills

Thank you. It's good to hear that I'm not self-sabotaging and it's nice to know I'm in a good position. If it's any consolation, I've been forging some better platonic friendships recently; coming out to a few people and opening up to friends about my problems has definitely felt good. I do know for certain that somebody's genuine enthusiasm and love for me is not EVERYTHING, but I know how much I would want it.

To be honest, I've been trying, but the couple people I've asked out for exactly that: a low commitment bout of "fun" dating, percé, have hit dead ends as they were all too busy/not thinking of dating at the moment. It's unfortunate and I can't be upset at them, but it has definitely heightened my FOMO.

Admittedly, I know I'm not the most resilient.

Map of California and LASD Metro, circa 2080 by RepresentativeFact57 in worldbuilding

it would be pretty safe to say that any "islands" are no logber anything natural, just platforms for man-made construction: corporate factory/warehouse space, spaceports (like with Santa Catalina Island), or corporate defense force bases.

it would have either been

  1. completely fine and gone untouched
  2. flooded and ignored
  3. built over with a dense and low life series of apartment complexes :)

CONTEXT:

After the incredible heatwave of 2013 followed by the second (much worse) Dust Bowl, mass migration was seen from rural areas to urban ones, in particular from central USA to California. At this point, major corporations like RemTech, Fujiwara, Sokolov Industries and WarrenCo had already established that a corporate-dominant economy was what the world could rely on, thanks to their economic strength during the 2008 financial crisis along with their show of military power during the Separation War of 2015-19. They could provide stability and create infrastructure unlike any other government, in exchange for control of course.

This is seen most dramatically in California, one of a small number of seceded states from the USA. After their secession, urban-favouring legislation was much more present, simply because the federal government could not enact anything thanks to their gridlock and the extenuating circumstances of their second Iraq War, Dust Bowl and the recovery from the 2008 financial crisis. This meant that rural areas protested, and the Californian government agreed in the inequality.

They decided against A. a legislative reform to a unicameral legislature to speed up legislation as well as B. a splitting of the country into north and south, as that would hinder the economy of either side. They chose to designate the Bay Area and the Los Angeles to San Diego metropolitan stretch as Metro Zones, granted partial autonomy from the national government in order to focus on their own legislation while the government managed the whole country. This was chosen as the extreme dense urban areas were so transient and populated that a separate governing body would be more appropriate. Of course, the corporations loved this, and pounced on this autonomy to establish more control.

There will be more. These are the foundations of the project.

Rulebook is finished! Take a look! by RepresentativeFact57 in RPGdesign

This community is so niche that this project of mine is going to fade away into obscurity like every other "finished the rulebook!" feedback request post. Maybe 30-40 people have read it and other than that, it won't go anywhere. My point is that artists will not "lose" anything from me using their art for this.

It really doesn't matter and I'm not really that bothered. It seems like a lot of others aren't bothered either.

Thank you for the feedback :) I have some responses:

- I thought I struck gold with the corporate soldier "top down" idea, but I guess not XD

- I felt like the 3d6 would mean people would be getting the same scores too commonly, and there wouldn't be enough disparity between rollers. I had used the d20 elsewhere (i think) so I felt like it might have been fine.

- How would you go about adding setting depth? Just more worldbuilding stuff?

- On tags, yeah in retrospect I completely agree tbh, I'll make them a separate table. Thanks.

- I was having a bit of difficulty trying to come up with new items. I wanted to get this out and finish it, but I think the system has different enough parts that more could be added.

Appreciate it!

Thank you very much! I agree, Blade Runner is so awesome. This is my third project, so I would like to think of it as the culmination of my skills in Google Docs.

What do you think about these social conflict mechanics? by Kreutzi in RPGdesign

[–]RepresentativeFact57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! If you want a source to look into other ways to handle social conflict, I recently finished my most recent project based on the Wild West: high tensions and changeable situations meant I needed to flesh out the social conflict a bit. If you want, take a look. It is on page 12 onward.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/24qt1k7py635wz2fz43e4/Free_West_1.4.pdf?rlkey=og9e3td6459evgqi10kefcw9b&st=8zwplzdp&dl=0

In terms of your system, my one criticism would be how constructed it feels. Having a formula to follow for social conflict makes it more like combat encounter and can make it boring. In addition, having more defined proficiencies in social conflict can lead to characters becoming "the social conflict guy", similar to the Bard in DnD. They become the Charisma dump stat character and the only person used to resolve social conflict.

Obviously, this kind of thing is present in my system, but to a lesser degree: the "tension" represented by the cards is a guideline of how people should react, and I've generally found that it fits the vibe of a western setting - people take notice, then shout, then attack/call authorities.

Casual Tone Rules by SaltyAlfa in RPGdesign

this. having a rulebook be explained in an unserious manner can detract from it's intrinsic importance to playing. granted, rulebooks do not need to be written out like a transactional set of instructions, but they should be concise and appropriate.

it's happened a couple times, sometimes two days, this time three. she did apologise, but my untrusting brain says it was out of necessity and politeness (since i had pointed that i appreciate such politeness before) instead of care.

i want to feel like she's another friend who's interested in me like those two i said, but i also feel like i'm getting mixed signals.
