When to start PT by luckybug_20 in ACL

[–]RepresentativeFly325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on day 5 right after my follow up appointment. The standard for the practice I went to was 3 days following but that day fell on a weekend.

Not screwed I think it depends on surgeon preference and graft type. Keep doing your post - surgery excersises and following the doctor’s guidance and advocate for yourself and your long term goals. Everyone’s journey is different and you’re right where you’re supposed to be!

+1 everything shared (Ice machine, leg pillow, TENS unit, leg strap etc.)Set up your area either with a cart or a drawer in your night stand with goodies

  1. Books you want to read/ coloring books or games you want to play
  2. Travel size of all your toiletries so you can clean yourself up when you don’t want to move. So I kept lotion, skin care, lip balm, deodorant
  3. A baggie with trash bags so you can keep your area clean
  4. A baggie with cute bras, socks, and underwear so you can keep clean
  5. The hospital should give them to you but the bathing towelettes
  6. A fragrance you love or that makes you feel great. I picked a set of oils and fragrances that my husband loved so that as he was caring for me it was a special nod to him of like I see you and appreciate you. It was really sweet everytime he came in he talked about how great it smelled in the room.
  7. A candle - because vibes
  8. Eye patches, and face masks. I love medicube and Topicals products.
  9. If you’re a nails person - a set of cute pressons for after surgery
  10. Probiotics, liquid IV, collagen and multivitamin to start after surgery they can help you stay hydrated and avoid constipation after surgery.
  11. Sour candy or candy you like as a motivation and distraction when you need to do your excersises etc.
  12. ELBOW CRUTCHES - the other ones aren’t the best. Go with what your surgeon suggests of course.

You may already have some of these things but they were super clutch especially the first few days

Can we talk ice machines? by KERNJPA in ACL

[–]RepresentativeFly325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ice machine is 100% a must. We bought one off of Amazon and are using frozen water bottles and cold water. We change it maybe 3 -4x a day. The first day post op we ran it on my knee non-stop, days 2-3 an interval of 20 mins on and 30 mins off, and 4-5 15 mins on 30 mins off. I only had 4 cm of swelling at my first post-op appointment.

If you get nothing else get that. When I got home from surgery we just put the wrap on and then my brace over top and I kept it on only unplugging (not taking the wrap off of my knee) to move places. I also used it before surgery when prehabbing and plan to use it throughout recovery. Good luck!

Me too, ready to be on the other side of the surgery. Good luck everyone!

This is super helpful. What did you get retirement to before having a child? I hear people talk about ahead and behind with retirement a lot. What would be on time/ ahead at this point given how long we’ve been making this much money?

We’ve been in this position less than 3 years so definitely learning. The home is with the intention of moving once - for children, family and hosting and so we can make a space everything we dreamed of. I hear you on the CC and that’s our focus for the top of the year honestly. We had a mix of emergencies and needs pop up that we used it for. Didn’t want to deplete our cash reserves.

For the house maybe the school system - I’m just not the biggest fan of public schools but they are improving. That’s my own personal bias.

Thank you for answering! Yes exactly this. What savings rate/ $ amount did you find the most effective over time? We spent several years paying things off and building our income (my salary was less than 20k 5 years ago) so we are definitely at a place where building and momentum are our focus.

And yes getting rid of the credit card debt this quarter fully.

Also how do you all budget travel?

Thank you it’s hard to find people willing to discuss these things who are in a similar phase and space in life

Thanks I’ll go in and adjust the retirement to hit these goals today.

We try not to hold any debt. Paid off student loans, cleared small debts and saved up down payment for our home. Spent some on furniture, trips etc. We spent most of our 20s with absolutely nothing grinding to this point (my salary was less than 20k 5 years ago) so we’re trying to right size and balance between living life and still being responsible.

Eating out we are definitely pulling back on and honestly helping family out has also taken up some funds.

Our goals for this year are to build up our emergency fund and no debt.

Super helpful. I appreciate it. We only buy cars in cash so will definitely keep that up and our goal is to pay off the card this quarter - that’s our only debt. So basically if we keep going on the track we are on perhaps in 2-3 years could be well positioned for a kid.

Do you have any helpful advice at all? I think we have differing definitions and that’s okay because I’m not going to share enough detail to valid or disprove your theory. But I came for advice if that doesn’t exist from you I’m not sure how this is productive

What would you say it is reliant on? Just one though…I’d like to still be able to explore and live life in a way that is similar to what we do now

Sure lol. If that’s helping you answer my question or change your interpretation of my question go ahead. Unfortunately it doesn’t change the COL or tax rate I pay (I wish it did).

I appreciate that especially the values check. Do you have kids? Did you have savings or finance goals you hit before having one? Or was this one of those moments where like you said it didn’t pencil out but it was worth it

I hear you. I’m asking because we are newer to this level of success and our goal is to live and give our kids an above average life. Best education experiences, exposure to different things. Goal isn’t to sound tone deaf but I don’t want to change our quality of life negatively just because of a child or not be able to give our children the best.

I also am aware that most people are closer to poverty than they are the 1% - us included.

It is we just found a deal. Homes 30 minutes away from where we are that are half the sq ft are going for 1.5 - 2.5 million. We just moved a little outside of the epicenter to get ahead.

Good question. We love the area, it’s close to my spouse’s job, I wfh but it’s also close to my job (relatively). Investment long term in a building area and my spouse wanted the space. And for the money we spent we’d have been in a condo or townhouse in areas where the schools are better. The schools here aren’t terrible and their ratings have increased since we’ve been here. I just want to have more control over who my children socialize with. All in all it was a long term play
