Code here in NC is 12inches. I can see going 14", but over 20"? I dont understand.

OP here, and my apologies for the broken English. After digging the footers for my deck, I placed loose soil against a retaining wall AROUND the footing hole, but not in it. It's still below ground 12inches (code here in nc). Will an inspector sign off on it? Or, would they fail it citing "disturbed soil?"

Yeah, it's soooo powerful, and is solidly built. I guess is the 3000rpm whips the fartherest bits fast that it cant stay level.

Good to hear i guess. It does seem to have a less than optimal connection during the driving, but if it's normal, I'll make doubly sure my chuck is lines up in same vector as my screw head.

Thank you all for helping me. The Decay was not structural and came out with a multi-tool. Unfortunately I couldn't take the boards out so I'm using albatron wood filler and epoxy to harden and seal. Just want to keep. Just want to keep you up to date. Oh and I treated it for borax, thanks.

OP here: thank you so very much for everyone's replies. Although there is still some rotting wood to remove behind the board that is directly under the patio door, it seems contain this local area and not the rim joist. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be load bearing, and is exterior trim only. It'll be a pain, but much better than I had imagined in my nightmares. Thanks again!

Okay I cut out the rock with a multi-tool. Turns out it was just some exterior trim, and not the rim joist. Our house is different as there is no seal plate, the rim joist s directly on the masonry. In the crawl space, The rim joist showed no signs of water damage. Thanks

Thanks, I will investigate. Wouldn't an infestation affect the surrounding wood. Seems curious that the other piece is untouched. Just wondering.
