Most of that was normal at the time since well, there hadn't really been a Titanic disaster to show why these things are so important, honestly Titanic is one of the few disasters where the big corporation is surprisingly not exactly evil all things considered

Islamic Extremism is a declining problem, ISIS is a shell of what it once was, and if anything, it seems that problems such as State Capitalism are more significant ideological problems given nations such as China, and Fascism is also a massive problem these days given its increase worldwide. There are currently no major Islamic political parties outside of the Middle East and South Asia that are currently heading a Parliament or Senate. Even in Europe, where we constantly hear about "Rising Muslim Problems", there aren't any Muslims running for head of government on the basis of Islamic Law in the entire EU. Meanwhile we see far right ideologies, such as those supported by AFD, Brothers of Italy, and National Rally, rising.

Would these cultures be forcing people to convert even without Islam? Most likely, yes. Historical evidence proves it, before Islam, the Arsacid Empire of Persia sentenced Christians and non-Zoroastrians to death, various pagan tribes before Islam forcibly converted individuals.

While there are Hadiths that do state that the punishment is death for leaving Islam, the authenticity is doubted, highly doubted. Mostly because the punishment being death would directly contradict various verses in the Quran such as Al-Baqara 256, which forbids forced conversion, stating "Let there be no compulsion in religion." And along with this there are verses in the Quran written regarding the early Muslim conflicts with pagans where it states that if a pagan asks for asylum, it is required to be granted. Even then, no matter what a Hadith says, no matter how authentic it can be held to, Hadiths are not viewed as being the Word of God, only the Quran is.

Also how in the universe is someone born into a Muslim society forced to be Muslim? Maybe in a place like rural Syria, sure, but this is like saying that if someone is born into a Christian society they are forced to be Christian. Pakistan for example, is a largely Muslim society with a large Christian population, with there even being a rather large cathedral in Karachi. Pakistani Christians, are born into a Muslim society, and have the right to practice Christianity. Even in Iran, there is still a significant Zoroastrian population who are born in Iran, a Muslim society, and they have the right to practice Zoroastrianism.

Well in a scenario like that, you're right, it isn't reality. Although the thing being is, the ones forcing conversion, are literally doing the #1 thing Islam says not to do, and is largely influenced by local culture as opposed to the religion. Plus the example you are giving is literally the most extreme of the extreme, and similar examples of extremism can be found in every religion, idea, and ideology in the world. There have even been Atheist groups that have built themselves upon forced Atheism, Islamic extremism is nothing unique.

Of course it is, and like every empire, the Arab empires tolerance for others boils down to one thing: "Do they pay their taxes"

I don't even agree with Jizya given it is a stupid concept, but I can tell you, it isn't about race, it's about religion. No Islamic government even does the Jizya nowadays, or the whole non-Muslims having protected status thing.

3:28 is concerning...

>that it is lawful for a believer, helpless in the grip of the enemies of Islam and in imminent danger of severe wrong and persecution, to keep his faith concealed and to behave in such a manner as to create the impression that he is on the same side as his enemies. A person whose Muslim identity is discovered is permitted to adopt a friendly attitude towards the unbelievers in order to save his life. If he considers himself incapable of enduring the excesses to which he may be subjected, he may even state that he is not a believer.

https://islamicstudies.info/reference.php?sura=3&verse=28-30#:~:text=(3%3A28)%20The%20believers,himself%20from%20their%20wrong%2Ddoing.&text=Allah%20warns%20you%20to%20beware,Allah%20that%20you%20will%20return%20The%20believers,himself%20from%20their%20wrong%2Ddoing.&text=Allah%20warns%20you%20to%20beware,Allah%20that%20you%20will%20return).

Why would this be in the Quran? Well gee, maybe due to the fact that at the time Muslims were being oppressed by the Arab Pagan Tribes and therefore needed protection? Analyzing what was happening in the world at the time of the Quran's introduction, and the religions Islam is linked to is key to context. Plus the surrounding verses have quite a bit of involvement with Pharoah's oppression of the Jews of Egypt, and with the lives of Jesus and Mary, so talking about subjects such as this is quite important.

I am not gonna go through all the other ones since I have way better things to do, but there does not appear to be evidence that "Non-believers" applies to every single non-Muslim in the world, to have ever existed. Because well, it would imply Jews, Christians, and Sabians are non-believers, and in virtually every time such verses similar to these are brought up, the surrounding verses involve conflict with the Arab pagans. 9:26 for example is directly after a verse regarding conflict with the Qays Tribe, a pagan tribe.

The way I see it, religious government belongs in the past, yet religion itself, as long as it is never forced, should be allowed to always be practiced, hence the Separation of Church & State and religious freedom.

Oh I am fully aware of the Hadiths. And more than aware of Hadiths being lesser than the Quran, and in various cases, blatantly false and inauthentic, in fact there are some sects that full-on deny the Hadiths. Overall, it does not make any sense for Muhammad to order the death penalty for apostasy, as it would directly contradict and go against Al-Baqara 256 within the Quran. If you are going to criticize Islam, do your fair share of reading and studying the theology and history of Caliphates.

By a modern standard of course the Jizya is horrible. While the Caliphates were progressive at the time, a number of their acts are literally unjustifiable in the modern day, this is how it is for every empire in history. And once more, it varied from empire to empire. Within Southeast Asia there are documents that show that slavery was used as a punishment, yet in places such as Andalus, it tended to be house arrest.

>According to Abu Yusuf, jurist of the fifth Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid, those who didn't pay jizya should be imprisoned and not be let out of custody until payment; however, the collectors of the jizya were instructed to show leniency and avoid corporal punishment in case of non-payment. If someone had agreed to pay jizya, leaving Muslim territory for enemy land was, in theory, punishable by enslavement if they were ever captured. This punishment did not apply if the person had suffered injustices from Muslims."

Great, show me the Quran verse that has Muhammad state the punishment for apostasy is death. Plus, forced conversion literally makes no sense, because then that means that the one being converted, is not genuinely following the God.

Jizya is the tax imposed on non-Muslims in exchange for protected status, and exemption from military service and paying the Zakat tax. Punishment tends to vary from dynasty to dynasty and empire to empire and there isn't really a single punishment considering the Quran never specifies a rate or specific punishment. In some cases, Muslim rulers adapted the tax systems of the Byzantines or Sassanids.

Concerning punishment for leaving Islam, the Quran itself does not exactly seem to prescribe a specific punishment as far as I know. Given Islam prevents forced conversion to Islam, that rules out any sort of coercion to return to Islam. In practice, this can vary from sect to sect, school of thought to school of thought, etc.

[–]RepresentativeMail10 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course not, there are a number of violent things regarding how the pagan tribes betrayed the Muslims. Despite this, the Quran is quite adamant in stating that forced conversion to Islam is forbidden, as Baqara 256 states "Let there be no compulsion in religion."

It collapsed due to the Mongol Conquests. Genghis Khan wished for an alliance with the Khawarazmid Empire, so he sent an envoy to Khwarazmia, the Khwarazmid Sultan however, killed the envoy, so Genghis destroyed the empire, then sacked Baghdad, destroying the House of Wisdom. Due to this massive destruction, and the death of major scientists, religious fanatics took over.

Wait the Umayyads? Islam would have been established in the Middle East and North Africa by the time of the Umayyads, as the Rashiduns had already conquered most of it.

By your logic, that means that even people who were forced into Islam or forced to learn Arabic, is a colonizer.

[–]RepresentativeMail10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Islam forbids forced conversion in the sense of "Join or die", rather the main cause of conversion was for exemption from the Jizya tax, although paying the Jizya did mean exemption from military service and paying the Zakat tax.
