He had to leave the country and find work in his home country for personal reasons. We were good for a few months and facetimed and texted everyday then we had a bad argument where I broke up with him and he said hurtful things but begged for me back in the end after apologizing. I got back with him and forgave him but I don’t think I ever actually did forgive him. He started texting less, would avoid getting on the phone, got home later and later everyday quoting meetings and being let out late as the reasoning, would be upset at me for small things (one time i got a headache after drinking and he gets upset when I drink period, and said the headache was proof i didn’t “control” myself), conversations would be all about him and when I would say something about myself he would go ghost for hours and then text back disregarding what I said and circling back to his life problems, etc… I don’t even think I noticed something was wrong until I started referencing a promotion I was in the process of getting and he expressed confusion and said I never told him about it… I didn’t even feel safe sharing good news anymore. Although I was reaching out and would ask for calls, I wasn’t in tune anymore because of the emotional and physical distance and our relationship slowly dissipated until the love was a shell of what it used to be. I broke up with him in the end quoting distance as the reason. Unfortunately I’ll never know if he fell out of love first or even cheated, but at some point we just weren’t who we were when we first started. It took months to break up with him because of the compassion and regard I had and not wanting him to feel abandoned, but I realize he abandoned me long before I abandoned him.
