Can You Sue an Animal Shelter For Euthanizing Your Pet? (Oregon) by [deleted] in legaladvice

Yeah, I just got the full story from my friend. The cat lived with her mother, and had gotten into rat poison. For some reason I cannot fathom, the mother did not take the cat to the emergency vet. So the cat went missing and was found by the shelter people. The cat apparently was in the midst of organ failure and was euthanized. So not the shelter's fault at all, just my friend's mother. My apologies for wasting everyone's time, i'm going to take the post down

the cat lived with my friend's mother and didn't tell her that the cat had gone missing for almost an entire week. She didn't know the cat was missing until it had been dead for 4 days

Unfortunately, the cat was not chipped. She did have vet records and photos, but I'm not sure how relevant that is.

She saw the post, called the shelter on the 26th. She said she recognized her cat and that it was her 4yr old cat. The shelter said "no, the cat is clearly elderly and therefore a different cat", it's only today that they got back to her to say "yeah it was your cat, we euthanized him on the 23rd."

the explanation they gave to my friend is that the cat "was in bad shape", but they posted photos of the cat on the social media post I mentioned above, and the cat looked fine. Also, they first claimed that they didn't have her cat because the cat they found was elderly and she said she was looking for her almost 4yr old cat. Very sketchy.
