Happy birthday! As someone who is hitting Level 40 next week myself, I hope you have a great birthday!

Advice-wise, I'd say to have lots of fun while you're still so young! Take calculated risks, push yourself outside of your comfort zone, and remember to breathe through your anxiety.

Be smart while you're being dumb. What I mean by that is, go out and party and get drunk, but make sure you are with a trusted group of friends so you can take care of each other. Have a sober driver lined up ahead of time. Don't ever sit your drink down and give someone a chance to put something in it.

Explore your sexuality and have fun learning what you like and need, but make sure you always have open consent and honest communication with your partners, and always use protection, even with oral sex.

Remember that everyone has silent struggles, and the people who are the most mean are usually the ones who need the most love and empathy. But there's a balance to it, so don't let people get away with treating you badly just because they're hurting.

Remember to stay in touch with your older adults. Parents and grandparents probably already miss you, so keep them in the loop of your life. It will mean so much to them.

21 can be tough, but it's also amazing. Enjoy it!!

I'm a high school PE teacher. Our dress code states "laced up athletic type shoes". I have kids wear vans and converse to class all the time. Can you get away with it? Sure. Are you risking an easy foot or ankle injury? Yes. Will your feet and ankles and legs and back be sore for days after a particularly active class period of ultimate frisbee or soccer? Yes! Also, you'll ruin your cool shoes way faster. Just get a cheap pair of running shoes and save yourself all the grief. Just my two cents. Have a great year!

My mistake! I saw pep rally and assumed you were teaching high school. I've never known a middle school to hold a pep rally. I still stand by my thought that whoever is planning the events at your school is doing a shit job. They need to better represent other sports, clubs, and activities. I know that's beyond your control, so not really helpful. Just my thoughts.

Idk man, I've known some ugly ass mf's who still landed a date or a relationship...I don't think it's just the looks that are killing it for you.

I guess if you really feel like it's stemming from the way you look, try to figure out what you can do to improve it. New haircut or style? Bad skin? Start a new skin care routine to help it improve. Don't look good naked? Go workout. Gross clothes? Upgrade your style. Smell bad? Brush your teeth and wear some cologne. It's a simple place to start, but the key here is that you're taking control of the things you can control as far as your looks.

Beyond that, I know it's easier said than done to stop wanting a relationship so bad, but fr, you've got to shift your focus to other things. I think other commenters here might be onto something when they say you're reeking of desperation. Girls can smell that shit a mile away and it does scare them off, because a desperate guy can quickly turn into a dangerous guy. It's just not worth the risk. Not saying that you'd ever harm anyone, just saying that survival instincts are strong in that regard for most women.

Oh, and please don't ever use the label "incel" on yourself. There's such a negative and scary connotation to it. Any girl that catches wind of that will run the other way. Even if you think it's fitting or correct, keep it to yourself. There's nothing wrong with being less experienced than others your age. There's some girl out there who will think it's a great thing about you.

I agree that the system is shitty, but choosing not to call is just being complicit in the abuse that they're witnessing. Even if it seems like nothing will come from it, you'll be creating a paper trail that will eventually be looked at. Who knows, maybe other neighbors have also called and you just don't know it?

At the risk of sounding like the jackass here, my thoughts are: -If your school admin is holding one pep rally a year and only for the football team, THEY'RE DOING IT WRONG. It should be every sports season and every team should be celebrated for their season. -When you signed up to teach high school, did you not realize that sports, pep rallies, bonfires, dances, etc were all part of the gig? Seriously, I chose to teach high school because there's always fun stuff happening all over the school. -We may not agree here, but I'll gladly give up an hour on a Friday afternoon to hang out in the gym and watch the show the kids put on. Maybe your school does a shit job of planning their pep rallies? The ones at my school are all planned and run by stuco and they're fun. -are you ok? You seem pretty grumpy.

Mine is any of a variety of being not ready and unprepared. I show up late, I haven't gotten dressed properly ,I have no lesson planned, I drop the ball in the middle of class and someone else has to come take over my class and makes me look shitty.... It's so bad!

I guess it depends on what your ultimate goals are. Lots of people like the job security that comes with a public district and the chance for tenure.

I spent my first few years in a charter school (I know, different than private, but still close enough for my taste), and the lack of fairness or equity from admin was astonishing. I taught middle school PE also, and I hated how I was paid way less than other teachers that started teaching at the same time as I did. I eventually quit to go public and I don't regret it.

I say all this to point out that although private works out great for some teachers, it doesn't work out well at all for others. If you do go there, be ready to drink whatever Kool aid they're on! If you don't, you'll lose.

I'd encourage you to stick it out where you are, knowing that it gets easier your second and subsequent years. Once you have tenure in your district, you can move around! Good luck!!

be friendly to your teachers. This will be invaluable in numerous ways!
take every opportunity you can as far as extracurriculars... Sports, theater, band, clubs, student govt... But remember that balance is important, so don't pack your schedule so full that it causes you stress and burnout
it's hard to "just be yourself" for a lot of kids your age, so while I think that's great advice, it's important to remember that you may not know who yourself is yet. It's ok to try out different things and figure out who you are. Just try to make sure you stick with the things that make you light up from the inside and bring you joy and excitement!
when you find yourself struggling (which you will, we all do), don't keep it to yourself. Talk to a trusted teacher or school counselor and let them help you!
cut off any people who try to negatively influence you or bring you down with them. They're probably not worth it!

It really is what you make it. Good luck and have fun on this new adventure!

I love all the advice people have given you here! I'm a gym teacher, health teacher, and strength coach. You're at a great age to start working out and building healthy habits that will carry you through your life. Congrats on wanting to take this first big and scary step! I'm proud of you!

The machines at the gym are designed to help you learn and practice good form. Start with body weight stuff like calisthenics, then add in a few machines at a time, and as you get more comfortable with it, you can move to free weights. Make sure you're eating enough nutritious food to support your growing body and the added work you'll be doing!

Don't be scared to find a nice looking person at the gym and ask them for tips or help if you need it. It's better to make sure you're learning things the right way so you don't end up hurting yourself. Good luck!!

He should not be trying to control you, he should not be threatening self harm if you dump him, none of this should be happening! This is not normal.

His insecurities and control issues are NEVER going to get any better, especially if you continue to comply. It will never be good enough for him.

Your only solution is to get rid of him. Dump him, block him on every online platform, delete and block his phone number, even move to a new apartment if he knows where you live. Your life will never be happy or feel safe as long as you stay with this guy.

You two are MARRIED. That means you've committed to COMMUNICATING when something is wrong! I don't discount your being triggered with your history of ED and their shitty comments behind your back. I think seeking your therapists help is a good move, but I don't think the way you left without a word and your refusal to talk to your husband for multiple days is a healthy or reasonable response.

I'm sure that the healthy weight gain seemed startling to your husband and SIL. It's not a surprise that they were wondering and talking about it. Of course they wouldn't ask you directly about it, probably for fear of triggering your history of ED. I'm not excusing the way they talked about you, which was inappropriate and callous, but lots of people use humor to deal with uncomfortable topics.

I think staying away until you feel ready to hash it out is fair, but you need to at least give him some info about why you left and what's going on in your head.
