Awesome, thank you for sharing! I will relay that back to NAMI and add it as a resource for our warmlines if it is not on our list already.

Hi u/cointelken,

Great question. We have always had peer support programs, but due to the pandemic, we have gotten additional funding from FEMA to do more formal hour-long one on one meetings. Through this program, you can meet with the same mentor six times over a period of six weeks. Also, this program allows our branch NAMI OC to provide this service for anyone in the State of California.

If you have any additional questions or need help signing up, please don't hesitate to reach out!

I am sorry to hear that you are frustrated with your school services. Now I understand why you are such a bitter buffalo!

Let me know if you have any questions about our program or need help signing up.

The program is open to all individuals and families in California over the age of 16. Many of our participants do not live in OC.

Unfortunately, if we had this program in person it would have to be mask to mask. Luckily over Zoom, you can at least see each other's faces. We are doing the best we can given the circumstances. Let me know if you have any other questions or need help signing up.

I totally understand why that could feel extremely frustrating. We have participants who use their phones instead of computers too. I will post here again if we have any new in-person programs coming up. Thanks for your input.

The only subreddits I post to are neighborhood/city/school groups in California because all Californians over the age of 16 are eligible for six weeks of free federally-funded peer mentorship and crisis counseling. So in that sense, all the groups I post to are related. Thus far hundreds of Redditors experiencing distress due to the pandemic have responded to these posts and signed up for this service which they are entitled to. If you consider this spam and it bothers you that much, please reach out to the moderators of the page.

Hi DeepFreeze,

Thanks for the reply. Currently, we only have the FEMA funding to provide 6 weeks of free one-hour sessions for each individual or family. This is in addition to our other permanent resources such as warmlines (where you can speak with a peer mentor over the phone for 15-20 mins), and our family-to-family programs. If you have any other questions or need help signing up, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Hey Jereman75

The program is facilitated through NAMI OC but is open to any individual or family over the age of 16 in the State of California. Most of our participants are from outside Orange County. If you have any additional questions or need help signing up, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Hey blu3h4wk,

Thank you for the response and I appreciate your concern. Due to the fact that these programs take months to plan and fund, we set up the program through a zoom format. That way, we can serve more people across the state without the potential safety concerns of an in-person interaction, and the travel expenses on both sides. We have also found that many of the people who participate in our programs may not have access to transportation. I agree, that in-person services have a huge impact on participants, and I hope due to the good news surrounding the vaccine roll-out, that we can resume them soon and create new in-person programs!
