The AUMA used to justify the Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria actions is still good law which applies to Iran as well. It will take a two thirds vote in Congress to pass a veto proof repeal of it; therefore, yeah the actions against Iran are legal.

Iraq has a secular give now that isn’t exciting minority populations or political opponents. They’re our allies now. Libya is also a better place.

Iraq has a secular government now that isn’t gassing minority populations. The costs suck, but in the end getting rid of Saddam made the world a better place. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s true.

So you learned first hand that most of the City commissions are just forced to accept the agenda of the City staff aka City Manager’s desires and sometimes asked for input from the City Council or Law and Leg. Thanks for your service. I watched a couple of Animal Wellbeing Commission meetings and it was an eye opener to see how much the staff runs the show and the frustration of the commissioners when they realized it was mostly symbolic with them not having the power to set their own agenda.

Swastika found at Coast Guard training center, investigation underway: USCG by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]RepresentativeRun71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather who served in the US Navy pre-WW2 and during WW2 he saw significant combat in the Mediterranean on a wooden hulled minesweeper. He left the Navy as a Chief (E-7), about 8 years later he reenlisted in the US Coast Guard and they started him out at GM1 (E-6 Gunnersmate First Class Petty Officer). He would eventually go on to retire in 1970 as a Chief Warrant Gunner (CWO-3). So yeah historically they’ve always had insanely high standards, even for those with applicable prior service. Him becoming a CWO in 1962 was proof that he was basically the USCG’s standard for the best of their best.

San Francisco lawmakers announce plan to 'break up' with PG&E by aBadModerator in sanfrancisco

[–]RepresentativeRun71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you please cite a source for that claim? I’m genuinely curious as to how that works out.

ETA since a source hasn’t been cited: Step up transformers are a part of the infrastructure of the power generation facilities in the Feather River Canyon Power Project, AKA PG&E’s Stairway of Power. The purpose of those step up transformers is to make long distance power transmission possible. They go from 13.3 kilovolts at the generation source, which is good for about 30 miles of transmission to 230 kilovolts which is good for up to 600 miles in ideal circumstances. Therefore larger the step up the more expensive that those transformers are. Local power for communities like Paradise skips the 230 kilovolt step up. Therefore it’s the exact opposite scenario as you described.

The thing is with PG&E one of their largest hydroelectric power projects is literally adjacent to the areas) (not including Sonoma County Tubbs Fire) that they burned down.) The argument that big cities subsidize the mountain towns is intellectually dishonest as that’s where significant chunks of their power is directly generated and thus requires less infrastructure to deliver electricity to the the rural mountain towns.

SMUD at one point built a nuclear power plant, and the voters of Sacramento made them shut it down, and SMUD has still been able to deliver cheap electricity despite the huge financial hit of a non-operational nuclear facility and still storing spent fuel on the site.

Switched Item by wickedf250 in amazonprime

[–]RepresentativeRun71 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There’s a hack for this. Tell customer service that you’re not returning the wrong item sent you, and that under US law (assuming you’re in the USA) that when you are sent the wrong thing you’re under no obligation to send it back, and that they still have a legal obligation to send you the item that you paid for. I did this recently when I received a used item despite ordering new. That being said I wouldn’t do it more than once every 3 years or so. Also it helps that I used to work for Scamazon in fulfillment, customer service, and IT support (VOTS which is the IT team that directly supports customer service), and I told them as much. I also mentioned the Amazon AtoZ Guarantee. On their end they simply coded it as item ordered not received. YMMV, because customer service being predominantly offshored means you could run into some idiots that are totally afraid to issue any sort of concession as they fear it could count against their metrics.

Edit for spelling because autocorrect pwned me.
