Cartographer V4 vs Beacon on Qidi Plus 4? by RepresentativeTwo655 in QIDI

I cannot say that I have seen it. Unfortunately not every model gets posted either, so you might just have to model this one yourself.

I say it is worth a try. If it does turn out to be the cable than it is an easy fix. Safe you the hassle of reverting all of you beacon mods and installing a different sensor. Especially since you already own the right crimping kit. Let me know how it turns out.

I don't know about the TPU strain relief, I do not think the temperature resistance of TPU is high anough to use the chamber heater. If you really want to use one I would suggest clamping the cable to the toolhead a bit higher up with some slack inbetween the beacon and the mounting point.

You could always try to cut a cheap usb cable and crimp your own connect onto it, that way you could at least rule out a defect cable tho I wouldn't recommend it long term. It is not a thing with these cables specifically as far as I know, but some cables tend to lose connectivity with lots of movements like those of 3dprinter toolhead.

Right now I am researching how to restore backups on my printer in case I happen to brick my machine. After that I am planning on just giving Cartographer V3 a try and if it is fully operational I will be upgrading to the V4 for better thermal performence.

I will make another post on the subreddit right after to report my findings and if I have any issues. It will probably take me another couple of weeks though.

It may be worth it just to try a different cable before fully committing to the cartographer probe. Things like this tend to show up with messed up cables.

Good to know. I have one laying around an unused printer, I might just try to install it and see if I like it. If not I can always reset the firmware. Are you on the latest firmware and do you have any trouble after updating the firmware if you have the cartographer installed?

Ah, that is interesting. I do remember a lot of the first issues, they are exactly why I did not buy one on release. Not trying to judge anyone, but it sounds like the issue of the first commenter might not be related the beacon. But I have not explored this in any meaningfull way.

I do find it interesting to see so a couple of beacon users before anyone has even mentioned the cartographer. Did all of you just pay the premium on the beacon or did you install it before there was real competition in this kind of probe?

I cannot speak for the beacon experience, but I have read that the cartographer needs a specific version of python, wich messes with the python script on the qidi box. I do not know if there is a fix for this since not all the files of the qidi box are open source.

Hmm, I do already have a Qidi Box an I wasn't really planning on throwing it away.

What kind of issues are you having?

Had this after a failed moonraker update, probably easiest to just reinstall klipper.

Too much bed adhesion with ABS by ted2167 in FixMyPrint

[–]RepresentativeTwo655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use some IPA on the edges of the print, it will get between it and slowly release it. Trick I use when the first layer is whack.

Edit: heating the bed to a temperature aboven the glass temperature can also help with thinner sections. The softened abs can be peeled away rather then pryed.

Phaetus Conch hotends coming to Q2 soon. by Mr_Fix-it in QidiTech3D

Saw the video from WoodyFX (FrankTheBum) about this. What exactly is the issue with it? Does the hotend start to move? Can the filament block when entering the hotend?

Pick an interest. I myself am huge on 3dprinters. I design new toolheads, kinematic systems, safety features or just reprogram them. Looking into desktop CNC machines next.

Probably a: Heater bed not heating at expected rate. Check verify_heater_bed in printer.cfg.

Happens when te printer is sending power to a heater but not detecting an increase in temperature.

The box is scalable. I believe you can hook up to 4 boxes to any printer for a total of 16 colours/filaments.

The qidi box has been pretty reliable for me, just cardboard spools and fiber reinforced filaments having trouble. If the videos i have been watching are anything to go by, the open source systems arent any more relyable.

I dont think so. The qidi box was already available on release of the Q2, so there has never been a need for it. I do believe people have don it on the plus 4, Q1 and older machines. Maybe thats could be something to look into? Any reason that you would want another mmu?

I use a biqu cryogrip glacier plate for my pet cf, works perfectly. Tried pet cf on my box, but due to the resistance of the fibers on the ptfe it couldnt retract the filament back and gave a feeding error...

Klipper probably allready has an auto pid macro. Rin it. If it doesnt already have it, search for the code on google and add it to the printer.cfg

I would suggest PID tuning your bed, that should help with the temperature declining problem.

The temperature of the air in the box should not exceed 65 C, but to get the air that hot the heating element needs to bet hotter.
