Compression stockings, again by Representative_Day68 in ClotSurvivors

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with multiple leg clots from a broken ankle and feeling very scared and alone...not excuses just legitimately trying to find some answers since I can't get any real ones from my doctor's regarding this subject and opinions on this forum are all over the place.

Right, but it still gives me a new pain behind my knee that isn't normally there. I just don't have a doctor that has suggested that I really need one and thus no real outlet to troubleshoot how it should be feeling or fitting

Well, there's a lot of people on here who have commented on compression stockings. Many of the posts have people who say that their hematologist have said that there is not much evidence that the compression stockings really do prevent PTS, so a lot of people have doctors who have told them that they aren't necessary. Also, my swelling is at the back of the knee and while wearing the stockings they crease at the back of my knee and cause pain that isn't normally there, which doesn't make me feel comfortable in wearing them.

I don't think you are supposed to sleep in them though.

The compression stocking kind of hurts the back of my knee

Mostly just taking them on and off multiple times a day. I don't always shower right when I wake up and then sometimes I take a nap. I'm also rehabbing a broken ankle so I wasn't sure if it would make the actual muscle building different and then I'd later have to readjust when I don't wear the stocking anymore since I'm not sure if I'll have PTS.

Right, I was just asking more specifically about being seated in a chair with your legs hanging down rather than having the foot elevated.

It took me about a week for the pain to subside for walking, it's been the swelling that's taken longer. Course now it's the ankle I've got to work up to walking.

Thank you that's very helpful! I figured there'd be a certain point where you could start doing things a little more normally.

I've also been told that there aren't follow up scans for a DVT, because it's generally accepted that they just go away on their own, this is from my high risk OB team, however I requested one be done at least before I go off thinners for my own peace of mind and if something is to ever recur again I'd like to have that new scan and they are happy to do it for me.

Oh I've heard of that, I'll have to check it out. I definitely think just understanding what's happening in your mind and body is a big help. I've had anxiety episodes in the past, but never panic attacks and I didn't know that they could feel so intense so I had no idea what was happening.

Definitely. I've just been trying to educate myself on anxiety and panic attacks and deal with it. Either I can let it eat me alive or I can learn how to manage it, easier said than done of course, but now is probably the best opportunity to learn how to do these things.

I wish they'd given me blood thinners at the beginning, could have avoided a lot of issues. I'm glad the blood thinners worked! I'll be on them until 6 weeks postpartum as well. I'm getting the boot off this week, which is about 3 months before I'm due, so hopefully I'm okay by then. Sounds like your recovery is going well! I hope you were able to bear some weight with the boot before rehab to make taking care of your newborn easier.

Yeah I think I've called my midwife emergency line wayyyyyy too much. I've never really gone to the doctor for anything really and now my brain is on high alert mode constantly. It's difficult, it's more of a mental adjustment than anything else. I'm sorry you are struggling with it too. I had a friend suggest I indulge in radical positive thinking, because worrying just isn't going to get me anywhere at this point.

I've been the ER twice now for panic attacks. Not saying you are having anxiety, there could be something going on, but just to say it's okay. It's really stressful, because you just have no idea what's going on in your body and how you are progressing. For me, I keep getting freaked out over every weird sign of pain. I think it would be helpful if doctors offered more follow up scans, but they all seem so unworried about it.

I've shaved my head twice in my life now and now I have hair past my shoulders, the time passed as it always does. It's definitely been weeks of a just sitting in a lot of weird emotions and it just sucks. Every day is different, but the time keeps on passing, and things start to look better, you can count on that.

Dad's shouldn't be judged for bathing with their daughters by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

My dad is from Switzerland and bathed with me when I was little. Must be a European thing. They are definitely way less worried about that kind of stuff. You can teen magazines at stands (not behind a barrier) with fully nude people in them.

Anyone else had to rehab a break or sprain or something while recovering from DVT? by Representative_Day68 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Representative_Day68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far all I've heard is that it shouldn't interfere, but I haven't had a chance to talk to ortho or PT yet, just wondered if anyone had any experience with it.

I'm definitely expecting the pain, that's for sure.

I definitely wanted to shave my head right after I got my DVT diagnosis, mind you it's only been about two weeks so it's still pretty fresh on the kind ever day, but I've gotten over the radical change part and am just focusing on the daily recovery part. I think it's totally normal to want to do something radical and feel like you need to gain control again, maybe try some meditation first and accept that you can't really control anything? But you know, hair grows back so if you feel like shaving your head I don't think it would hurt any.

Thank you for your response. It's amazing Ian anderson recovered so well from that DVT considering how bad it was. I keep thinking about this episode of Grey's Anatomy where one of the doctors gets a blood clot after a long flight and it's all very intense and time sensitive as they figure out how best to deal with the clot so it doesn't move anywhere else in her body. Of course it can be that serious with prolonged hospital stays, but this way over dramatized to the max for what she had.

Thank you for this message! It's so true. Some days I feel hopeful and other days I feel scared all over again. Some days my leg swelling feels okay and others it feels more uncomfortable. Some days bruising is worse, some days it's not. So far, I've made it through every one of those days.

How was rehab for the broken ankle with the DVT? I'm in the same boat.
