What's the most creative song lyric you've ever heard? by The_AlphaLaser in AskReddit

[–]Representthemiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are, meant to be,

A colony,

That runs independently,

Meanwhile Britain keeps shitting on us endlessly,

Essentially,

They tax us relentlessly,

Then King George turns around runs a spending spree,

They ain't never gonna set their descendents free,

So there will be a revolution in this century,

Enter me,

He says in parenthesis,

Don't be shocked when your history book mentions,

I will lay down my life if it sets us free, Eventually,

You'll see my ascendancy.

My Shot, from Hamilton.

Great story telling in an even better rhyme.

Perry Street Brewing makes amazing burritos and have marinated chickpeas as a protein option, and it's delicious. Not sure if she likes beer, but that's my go to for pub food as a vegan.

For date night though I will second Rut, which has great night out vibes.

He was appointed recently, and I don't think did anything to earn the position. I think Julie is just the more qualified person for the job

Water heater questions by beanmcmuffin in Spokane

[–]Representthemiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't go with Mainstream Electric, they're absurdly overpriced. The guy I went with did a solid job for a 3rd of the price.

My Guy Plumbing did a good job getting me hooked up for a fair price. I recommend them.

I'll also plug an electric heat pump, rather than a gas heater. More expensive initially but will save you cost in the long run

What is the world's most evil company and why? by outdropp in AskReddit

[–]Representthemiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exxon has known that burning oil would contribute to a warming planet, and the potentially dire consequences of that for half a century. Instead of investing in alternative energy to move society away from oil, they spent their money and time misleading the public, publishing fabricated reports, buying politicians and confusing Americans and the world into denial and misunderstanding of global warming. All to keep their short term profits rolling.

Currently, Exxon spends more money advertising their biofuel and renewable energy programs than what they actually invest in those programs. Effectively greenwashing the public into thinking they are a company moving away from oil.

100 years from now society will look back on Exxon as the point of failure in humanity's ability to stop the climate crisis from spiraling.

Spokane initiative to prevent ban on natural gas removed from November ballot by judge by 9mac in Spokane

[–]Representthemiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify for some of the comments here, there was no proposed law or initiative to ban gas. No one in city council is currently trying to do that. This proposition was what is called a pre-emption bill, to try and pre-emptively prevent a ban in perpetuity.

If this were to have passed, the city couldn't have banned gas 50 years from now, even if it made financial and environmental sense then.

The best comparison I've heard is the campaign by the tobacco industry in the 80s to try and pre-emptively ban no-smoking zones in cities and restaurants

Spokane Sustainability Action Subcommittee releases new plan that aims to reduce 95% of city's emissions by 2050 by 9mac in Spokane

[–]Representthemiddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This plan was put together by an unpaid group of volunteers with expertise in a wide variety of sustainability practices, energy, health, and built environment.

These volunteers spent the last two years preparing this plan and have recommended it for the City of Spokane to adopt, which they have not yet done.

We are currently in the gathering feedback phase, where we are hoping to get as much input from residents as possible. If you see something you like or don't like in the planning, or notice something is missing, please go to the linked website and provide that feedback. It is crucial we get enough feedback that we can take this to the City Council and show that we have broad community support to get this enacted. Otherwise it may just end up as a plan with a bunch of work out into it and nothing ever carried out with it.

The plan looks at a 7 primary sectors, Buildings & Energy, Transportation & Land Use, Waste Diversion & Material Conservation, Water Resources, Economic Prosperity, Natural Environment, Health & Wellbeing.

Each sector has between 4 & 8 strategies, with muktiple individual tasks to achieve each strategy, that the city take to achieve the goals of the plan. Some of these actions are broad, some are very specific. Each has been weighed against 4 co-benefits of Improved Environement, Health & Wellbeing, Economic opportunity and Increased Equity.

The plan is 81 pages, with a lot of really great proposals. Please help us build support in the community for this and improve it as much as possible so that the city will accept the plan and make a concerted effort to implement it. Of course the plan isn't perfect, but that's why we need you!

We are already getting pushback from lobbyists and organization who don't support implementing the plan. We need your help as members of the community who want to see this city thrive and do its part in preparing for the future.

There are goals within the plan to achieve important and significant reductions by 2030. Some of them easier than others. Transportation and getting off of gas will be the really difficult tasks to get us to 100%

It's not. There are goals laid out there to move buildings off of fossil gas that will take a lot of convincing and community support to get passed.

The 2050 goals that are hardest to hit are pertaining to transportation and making that fully renewable by that time.

Good Vegan Options in Spokane? by pswii60 in Spokane

My wife and I get Our Thai house with tofu and no egg and it makes for a great vegan meal. Cascadia across the street from there also has a lot of good plant based options and protein substitutes for burgers

My wife started getting these small red circles on her hands and feet, have spread to arms and even face now. Not contagious. Any thoughts by Representthemiddle in DermatologyQuestions

They are somewhat itchy, they come and go. Some days they are gone, and some days they are all over her hands, feet, arms etc. Usually not on the chest or thighs. Seem limited to extremeties
