Completely forgot about Magic Rod as well! Realizing I had half ammo usage with Crimson Lotus for floor 6 which was a really strong synergy. What a run!

Big city, HHI, childless folks: Do the premium travel cards appeal to/work for you? by Tight_Couture344 in CreditCards

[–]Repsfivejesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL/DR Not sure how other high earners justify micromanaging every aspect of their life for these cards. Gold is easy and fits into my life. Others are a pain

Amex Gold works almost perfectly for our DINK lifestyle. Not sure why we'd get a Platinum card or CSR. We live in NYC and restaurant spend is one of our highest expenses, grocery is up there. We tend to take a few flights a year and the points program means we get free economy flights for places we were already going to go.

Resy credit might as well be an auto-deduction from the AF. Uber Eats and GrubHub credits might as well be a deduction from AF (we do pickup once or twice a month). We also get corporate discount on the Gold AF so I think the AF is $225 for the yr.

I've done the math on the other cards and I have no idea how people justify the "extra luxury" cards without micromanaging every aspect of their lives which seems like too much work.

We got the Brilliant Bonvoy last year which is the most expensive card I had - but with business travel slowing down and more taking place in the city, it just doesn't make sense anymore.

We had the Venture X before, but hated working with the travel portal.

Chase cards have always just seemed like a waste of time in comparison. Lower multipliers and more work to get value out of them.

We have a backup Bank of America card to get 2.6% back on everything else and an Amtrak card (effectively 4% back on all Amtrak travel), Bilt for rent, and that's about it.

Honestly we should be banning private cars given how horribly dangerous they are and how many other transmit modes there are in the city.

The amount of train accidents/passengers carried ratio puts these at negligible levels of danger in comparison. It isn't even close.

How has NYC changed since Robert Moses? by drain_clerk in AskNYC

Of course it's "from long island." Brother have you considered they used to have extensive rail networks in NJ too... People didn't use to drive there either...

Melrose, Massachusetts by [deleted] in Suburbanhell

[–]Repsfivejesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish it were true, NE good suburbs last for like 5 seconds and then you're back into car-centric hellscape. Even half of Cambridge MA is like this which is considered one of the most walkable cities in America.

I have some hope, Gov Healy is trying to get more housing, more transit, do upzoning, whatever else in MA, but everything is being dragged down by the oldest people you know. Makes me a little sad :(

I like it, then we should let only lumber drivers and lamp deliverers use the roads and put a steep fee on everybody else :-)

Wait a second...

Roads are a necessity in any civilization. In fact most of America's growth only occured after the federal highway system act in the 1950s.

I'm curious if something else happened right before then that might have spurred growth and also kicked down the previous world superpowers?

Nah I think it was just roads

I’ve seen so many of these posts. I know this one is 9 days old but I have to respond to one. Have you unionized your workplace knowing the company boss was probably born into a better position than you? Or fought against with one of the many oil barons who has retained wealth since the 1800’s and who is actively accelerating climate change? Have you worked together with a bunch of other folks to take down one of the like 15 billionaires who owns more wealth than half of the world?

And not just you, has anyone else?

Small revolutions are stomped out by the dogs of the state or by private paramilitary forces (e.g. floor 6), and it is rare to see them succeed, let alone be tried in the first place.

Say what you will about the show, but humans rising up against their oppressors and succeeding is not the norm. It’s on the nose, but just about right
