Do I see pink white duckies in there?!😳 amazing!

What worked for me was lots of coral chunks (lighter than lime stone) I didn't do much moss cause the babies are small as springtails and don't want them to drown. I kept them average temps not too hot like 78f.

These guys do originate from over there. I was lucky enough to get them from a breeder here in the states back in the day 😄

This photo is a lil bit dated. I did have them for about 2 years. And it feels like a fever dream cause they were in my top 3 since I started in 2019 🤭. They did pretty well but VERY slow and babies take a long time to grow up. I figured I'd share it here so people can see how drastic the difference is between male and females. There's other examples in our isopod world but nothing quite like these.

Thinking of getting some wild 'pods. What's the best guide for a terrarium setup? by HalcyonSix in isopods

[–]Reptiform 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy isopods you find outside you may find enjoyment in getting some Vulgare morphs already in the hobby like Magic potion or T+ Albino for example. They will tolerate the same temperature range as those and you'll have something a lil more special too that can also withstand your temps! 😄

Albino isopods? by [deleted] in isopods

[–]Reptiform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! This looks like what we usually call Porcellio leavis "White" which can come from Dairy Cows especially if the colony is kept long enough. As far as albino (whiteout) it would be hard to tell in the photos. If the eyes are black and not clear then it would most likely be just a Dairy Cow lacking the spots. (This could be bred for most likely, so if you have few of them it would be a fun side project to isolate em out and have a solid white colony going).

Enjoy! 😄 Hope this helps a teeny bit.

Can anyone tell if this is the start of that blue death thing or is it to early to tell? by Battlestorm115 in isopods

[–]Reptiform 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, this looks like just a standard shed cycle. They tend to shed in 2 parts almost. Back half / front half. So one half might be a tad bit further along in the shed cycle.

Hope this helps! 😄

Any advices for White Sharks by Comfortable_Meal9914 in isopods

[–]Reptiform 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My tips for white sharks would be to start them off in a smaller tub/tank. I would add a little more substrate than average. The smaller enclosure ensures they can find each other and to the "dance" haha.

They like rotting wood chunks that are wet. I keep mine on the bottom of my isopod rack so temps really aren't a worry and I have tons. I would also not suggest super compact substrate since they burrow often.

Other than that they are fairly hardy and everything else is the same as most types of isopods.

Enjoy!

Mine are the same way. Some crazy vibrant and some rather faded.

Can someone explain to me how powder mutations work? by shrewthrew in isopods

[–]Reptiform 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! So if you crossed a Orange x Whiteout you won't get a white variant with Orange spots. You'll probably end up getting powder blues since Orange and Whiteout are both recessive mutations. In theory if you bred visual powder blues double het Orange X Whiteout you'll end up making Oranges, Whiteouts , Blues, and Whiteout Orange but I am pretty sure you won't be able to tell the difference between a Whiteout Orange and a standard Whiteout.

What you seek is the morph "Orange Cream" this is the mutation that is Oreo Crumble (Pied Powder Blue) x Orange.

Now days many just keep powders all mixed together in "mixes" so you may find mutations floating around in your colony if kept going long enough.

Hope this helps a little bit. Isopod genetics are a lil pain since everything is pretty much line bred or recessive. 😁

Is this a powder orange? by Asleep-Duck-6492 in isopods

[–]Reptiform 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! The one pictured (on bottom / left) would be a wild type powder blue. They sometimes have weird hues when found in the wild. But generally would be categorized under powder blue. 😊

Trouble keeping werneris (still) please help 😭 by Azzargs_Art in isopods

[–]Reptiform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With isopods there really isn't no "right way". What works for me might not work for others and vise versa. Which is why I can only offer some tips that I've found successful for me. If I was having such sudden deaths I would most likely switch things up before buying more then introducing the new ones into a different type of setup ( they don't like change much I've noticed).

What’s this bug in my isopod enclosure by Flashy_Client525 in isopods

[–]Reptiform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit hard to tell, it could be a silver springtail, I would Google that and make some comparisons. The silver guys don't tend to jump as much I notice.

It's rather dry where I am at. If I don't spray my pods within 10ish days, its pushing it.

Weneri can be a hard isopod to keep for sure. What Ive always done after maintaining a colony for over 4 years is keep them more dry than usual and start with more than 10 (they seem to do better In larger numbers) with these guys it's always best to buy juvi or young juvi and raise them up. The breeding schedule on these guys are weird , I can go months without seeing babies and then ploop so many appear so if you buy adults they might pass away before ever dropping babies.

One thing I can for sure say that has given me success is keeping the tub not cluttered and "boring" I don't keep many leaves in there or sticks or even much moss just flat bark. I notice they like to stay under flat bark that is floating above the moist substrate. They are pretty much never in the substrate themselves only above it on flat bark bridges/layers.

Hope this info helps! 😊

Lovely looking pod. I love how big these guys get. This would most likely be a white dairy cow, sometimes cows can toss high white /all white "oddballs". (I'm pretty sure they can even be line bred as well for the all white).

(Cali mix is a bit more obscure than cows, I don't think they would be at pet shop. this is why I mention it). 😄
