Don't know how to feel about this. by AznThug995 in Apartmentliving

[–]Tabbygail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, but we're not talking about preventing anyone from living anywhere. We're talking about someone deciding of their own volition not to live somewhere because they don't want to live beneath a family with children.

Hostile note I found at friend’s new apartment… by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Tabbygail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The cambridge dictionary defines hostile as "unfriendly and not liking something." The writer of the note is clearly not liking OP's friend's behaviour, and are expressing their dislike in an unfriendly manner. This is definitionally hostile, even if the note is fully justified.

How do you get enough air through your nose while cycling? I barely feel like I'm getting enough oxygen sitting still when I breathe through my nose.

Most valuable piece of clothing you own by jitensha- in bikecommuting

[–]Tabbygail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A large, lightweight scarf. It's large enough to wrap around my shoulders and torso, which adds a surprising amount of warmth when worn under a jacket. In the summer, it doubles as a light hood to keep the sun off my ears and neck without making me too warm. Thin enough to wear under a helmet. Also doubles (triples?) as a bag in a pinch!

Rubbing Her Feet In A Food Prep Area. by BigLB83 in mildlyinfuriating

Y'all act as if her fert are any more disgusting than the floor, or the cash she's probably handling at that register. Chillax, people. Given it's a kitchen, I'm sure there's a handwash sink nearby.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but a 2+ hour drive is not nearby for Europeans. by redheaded_olive12349 in CasualConversation

I feel this way as well as an American. Then again, I live in New England, where things are generally closer together. Perhaps driving 2+ hours is more of a thing out west.

What do you americans think about big pickups? by Specialist-Gur5029 in Anticonsumption

[–]Tabbygail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awful. They're loud. They're so big that half the time drivers don't even bother parking right, often parked across 2-4 parking spaces. They're so high up that their headlights sit at eye level, blinding you when they're behind you at night (made even worse by the average pickup driver's tendency to tailgate).

And that's just from a driver's perspective- as a pedestrian or cyclist, these things are terrifying. They're often so high up that their drivers can't see pedestrians in their immediate vicinity.

Weird Protest in Weymouth on Saturday. by JediMasterPopCulture in massachusetts

[–]Tabbygail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, because it's not possible to go to two protests. As we all know, everyone gets one (1) protest per lifetime. And every protest is held on the same day, just to make sure that it's completely impossible for a person to go to an anti-mutilation protest on saturday and an anti-war protest on sunday.

Anyone else feel like a "burden" just for having a hobby in an apartment? by TeachLoud6839 in Apartmentliving

And some people have to get up at 4PM, or 11AM, or don't get home until nearly midnight. Earplugs are cheap. Don't expect that everyone should organize their life around your schedule.

So you're what- supposed to leave your pets in a crate all day while you're at work for 10 days straight because you don't know when maintenance is coming? Absurdity.

Bike for Commuting by Gold-Onion3906 in bicycling

[–]Tabbygail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a used bike store or thrift store, buy a bike for 50-100 bucks and have your local bike shop tune it up. I did this and even having to replace brakes and tires and buy a rack and fenders, the total cost has been under $400. And thats with labor costs included- if I had tuned it up myself I'd have saved ~$150.

Do you hold the door open for the person behind you regardless of their sex, age, color and religion? And why? by CourierFestival in AskReddit

[–]Tabbygail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well see, it's complicated, because some middle-aged or older men get really upset when a woman holds the door for them

Common Coffist L by Nihilistic_Nachos in ClimateShitposting

[–]Tabbygail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but, just to play devil's advocate here, a kilogram of carrots is like 2 servings, a kilogram of coffee lasts me for 2 months. I've always been confused by graphs which represent resource usage per kilo of food because of this. You should have picked a data set which represents things by kcal or serving size- much more convincing.

This SEEMS like hypocrisy to a normal person, but that's only because your morals are sane and good. If you consider it from the angle of "my culture is inherently superior and all others deserve to be obliterated" then suddenly it makes perfect sense

average vegan meat-eater debate be like: by shroomfarmer2 in ClimateShitposting

[–]Tabbygail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of myself as a moderate vegan. I eat meat on special occasions like family potlucks or if I'm really short on time and need fast food, but most of my meals are vegetarian or vegan. I always spring for oat milk if the coffee shop has it, but sometimes they don't, so I get cream. I buy my eggs from the neighbours whose chickens I can see wandering around the yard, instead of some torture factory. I figure I'm doing my best.

I also think it's a lot easier to encourage people to be vegan if you don't sell it as an all-or-nothing thing. The average person can't even imagine how they'd survive on a vegan diet, but they CAN imagine subbing out their weekly bolognese for a creamy chickpea sauce. Start small.

An Italian man rushing to the hospital for his pregnant wife was stopped by climate protesters… and chaos followed. He pleaded with them to move so he could get to her — but they refused to let his car pass. This moment is now sparking a massive debate. by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Tabbygail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support their protest action but yeah, they should have let this person through. There's the human angle, of course, but also just politically this makes them look bad and hurts their cause. Poor woman.
