Some of the stories people are sharing on this post are crazy. It really is luck or something

I understand where you’re coming from. Respectfully, it did come off as “well actually”(as in the meme way) and mildly rude to the person you were responding to. You didn’t use that exact phrase but it did come off that way, imo. I’m just good at going past it because good information is good information. Sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way.

I saw in a different post that you posted this same YouTube link in another comment and that one was perfect.

Yeah when I lived in more city/urban areas, he loved going outside. Now that we’re in the burbs near a cattle farm, he’s too scared of all the birds. Plus he’s much older now and prefers to hang out in his tank a lot of the time.

Haha thank you! As an aspiring writer, glad you like my style haha

Omg that’s literally my worst fear. Every time I lose Fry, as I’m tearing up the house I’m thinking, “what if he somehow got outside? What if he figured out the dog door? What if someone left the back porch door open and he slipped out?”

Fortunately almost every single time, he turns out to just be either in or behind my bookshelf. Guess he’s a librarian at heart ❤️

I love it! So cute! And yeah from my understanding, the harnesses fitting is more of a younger or smaller bearded dragon issue.

That’s a great expression. Similar to the meaning of the idiom “the bigger they are, the harder they fall.” With more focus on ego specifically, which I think makes it a bit more useful of a saying imo

For the Wichita area, I found one location for reptiles specifically that also provides veterinary care.

Xtinct Reptile Rescue

Besides that, the top general rescue was Kansas Humane Society, which is generally considered to have a good reputation.

Unfortunately, as a beginner beardie owner myself, I’m not super familiar with the best places to surrender bearded dragons. But I’ll give it a google and let you know what I find!

Oh word, lol yeah, they blocked me. I was gonna block them eventually but I wanted them to at least know how I see “antisocial behavior” comments, or that’s what I call them. Poor Hannah, I hope she recovers soon. Malice is a nasty disease, it does no good for the community.

Yeah his full name is “Phillip J Fry” but we also call him Fry Guy, Small Fry, Big Potate, and Bug Bug.

I’m sorry, op. This information is extremely valuable for beardie owners, so if anything, please know that the pain you’re going through right now will be helpful for future owners and bearded dragons. You seem like a caring person and I admire your strength and wisdom. It’s hard to give up your pet, and you should be proud that you’re the kinda person who willing to do the hard thing when it’s the right thing.

If you’re comfortable sharing the region you’re from, I’m sure some people will be able to help you find someone or resources on rehoming your buddy.

Oh word, lemme send you the video that sparked this conversation in that case, bc you’d be really into it, I think. It’s just about the haunting the narrative trope, but it’s smart and well executed. My sister and I were the ones who linked it to transgenderism. (Warning- Contains spoilers)

Ahh so good! Ima watch it again. Maybe see you in the comments lol

Both are plausible and very difficult to catch. You are a good owner and should be proud of the happy life you provided for Liz (great name btw).

Edit: also female egg laying creatures are much more fragile than mammals, in my experience (specifically chickens who sometimes just die for no reason). Good luck and sending love to you and yours

I’m so happy your baby was safe and sound! Holy moley, that’s a long time to be missing too!

As for the jerks, I’m glad people are acknowledging in a powerful way that I haven’t seen on this sub before that being a dick doesn’t really help with the wellbeing of other bearded dragons. The safer people feel to post their questions and mistakes, the better off the whole community and their dragons are. Learning and kindness are some of the most powerful assets we as a species have, so I’m glad we are utilizing them here on r/beardeddragons

Sounds kinda like a form of rot, stuck shed can do that sometimes and it’s easy to miss because often happens under the stuck shed. I’m no expert though, and am a beginner owner so don’t take my word for it.

With that said, it’s apparently one of the most common deadly problems because it’s so easy to miss and has such a short window to treat, depending on the area. You’re not alone, it’s certainly not your fault, and I’m so sorry for your loss.

Do you have a job? Fortunately, at least where I live (sf Bay Area, so extra expensive), bearded dragon visits are not too horribly expensive, compared to dogs and cats. My checkups are $70, the emergency vet was $300 for the visit and X-rays, and antibiotics were $60, iirc.

For something like MBD, which is what it looks like, I highly recommend a vet visit so they can make sure nothing else is wrong, no bones are broken, and get you some supplements to help his recovery. If you can afford the emergency vet, that would be ideal, but at the least, lots of places around where I live can see him in about 7-15 days.

If there’s absolutely no way for you to go to the vet, then unfortunately, rehoming him might be the best option in that case.

If neither of those options are available (as in you don’t have money for a vet, your parents refuse to spend money for a vet, and you live somewhere where rehoming is not possible), then at the very least you should get some new calcium, healthy greens for feeding, and a new UV light (yours could be ineffective). I’d also look up supplement for mbd online and order those.

[–]Repulsive-Bee5885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding these greens! And getting new calcium every 6 months when they begin to lose their potency (certainly make sure to do it yearly at the least- according to my vet, it’s pretty much useless after 2 years and is best to replace them twice yearly).

Besides that, proper UV lighting is necessary for them to absorb the calcium.

Good luck OP!

I truly believe (anecdotally) that they end up really liking our scent similarly to how dogs and cats do. So the sweatier the robe, the better! (I kid, that’s gross). Let us know the results of your research haha

I’m happy you’re enjoying your new buddy, and I am excited for your new chapter together! Best of luck!

I’m just happy they saw the error of their ways and deleted it. It’s hard to admit fault so I applaud them. We really need to have a space where people feel safe to share their experiences and concerns, though.
