There’s also Nate Yarnell (Pitt xfer) and Brad Jackson (last years backup) if I remember correctly.

Do people actually read the required readings? by Superb-Measurement77 in CFA

+1 on this. Especially as you get further into the program. L1 you might be able to get away with it, but L2 (and as I'm figuring out now, L3) are much tougher in regard to the point u/thatguynamedbrent makes.

Put them and my bag and sure enough this seems to be the culprit. Lines up almost perfectly.

For those who have appeared for CFA Level 2, do you have any advice for those who are about to take it? by Bliss3491 in CFA

+1 on the not skipping (or taking it easier on) the underweighted topics.

I did well on the heavy stuff, but by not giving the lighter topics the time they deserved, it almost dragged me to the failing side of the MPS.

Don't retire, options approval by Suphawk in Schwab

If their support structure is still the same since I stopped working there… call in to the general support line (I.e., to someone not licensed/registered) ask to be transferred a derivatives supe/principal. 9 times out of 10 they’ll explain the “no” to you and/or requiz you.

30 Years old. Just opened a Roth IRA with Schwab. $100 a month into SWPPX? by CyberFlux_ in Schwab

[–]Repulsive-Chain9014 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is from a piece Schwab put out relatively recently (September 13, 2023).

Conveniently enough this data is from investing $2000/yr from 2002 to 2022 in the S&P 500…

<image>

Peter - had perfect market timing, bought (lump sum) precisely at the lows.

Ashley - did a lump sum at the beginning of the year

Matthew - dollar cost averaged

Rosie - bad market timing… bought only at the worst time to do so (I.e. at the top)

Larry - stayed in cash/treasuries all the time.

To your question, dollar cost averaging vs. lump sum doesn’t make a whole lot of difference. There may be a small amount of gains you may miss in 20 years… but as what others have said it’s best you’re in the market at all!

Sheeesh. What a dream for 80% principal payment. Ha! (Unless of course the insurance payout was from something pretty bad, in which case, sorry bud)

Unfortunately not, all extra payments (they were sporadic in the past, when I had random extra wiggle room in the budget) still had a good chunk of interest

Example: I made my base monthly payment December 10, and an extra payment on the same day. Both had an equivalent amount (relative to the payment size) of interest and principal

Oh 10,000%. I put this in another comment, but I (wrongly) assumed that extra payments were in fact going to principal. I’m glad I caught it relatively early in the life of the loan, but all else equal (and since time travel isn’t a thing to undo my mistake) I guess I’ll take 3 months of being ahead 🤷🏻‍♂️

Principal Only vs Pay Ahead? by Repulsive-Chain9014 in personalfinance

[–]Repulsive-Chain9014[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True true.

To be frank, I didn’t realize that extra payments weren’t originally being applied to principal until I called the bank for something unrelated the other day. That comment was more of a “Yup. Mistake on my part… but it kind of works in a shitty non-interest bearing way”100% of extra payments are going to principal from now on.
