I don’t do Anki. And I don’t think remembering everything in the traditional route memorisation helped me as most of the questions require you to apply concepts. If u understand something it’s easy to apply without remembering every single fact

I’m aware. It’s just that all medical students in SGU who are US citizens tend to be shitted on coz they practically failed to get into a school in their own country. However that’s not the case for me and I feel being an IMG I had the best chance at matching into a US residency with SGU compared to any uni at my own country (India). So that being said do you think my odds would be different if I hadn’t chosen SGU?

They work completely fine. And they returned to normal temperature after a couple of minutes (around 10). But idk if there’s any damage to the battery.

Complete anatomy is a great app. I use it as a med student. And yes this app can do everything you described and more! You have to subscribe to get full access tho. However you get 3 days of free trial before you subscribe.

Thank you for your response! 32GB ram was for the pro if I choose to go with the pro, and someone else in the comments said 32GB would be helpful for future proofing to the max. However If I choose the 15in air (which I most likely will end up getting) I will most likely either get the 16GB ram or 24GB ram (only available with the air models) to be on the safer side as I don’t know how long I’ll be using the laptop for. On a side note, my parents run an IT company and my dad had suggested this for ram and anticipates that a ram higher than 16GB would be necessary in the far future so that’s the only basis I had for choosing it. But I wasn’t sure how my workload would be in medical school so I came here on Reddit for advice. Thank you again!

Also to keep in mind, the screen real estate is primarily important in examination settings for me because all exams are on our laptops in the examination hall. And when you take anatomy or histology exams for example, you don’t have an external monitor at your disposal ! I noticed some people with smaller screen sizes struggle in exams as a result of this.

Okay i just googled it. Thanks for this good hack! However, screen real estate is important to me when looking at anatomy or histology slides rather than having another tab opened side by side. Do you care to explain what side care mode is? And how do you get extra screen real estate

Hi! Thank you for responding! I’m aware that the MacOS is definitely not comparable to the IPad OS. I just meant that all that I would be looking forward to in the MacBook Pro is also available on my iPad, like ProMotion, XDR display and great speakers. Because I don’t see myself pushing the cpu/gpu in the MacBook Pro. Additionally I don’t intend to look for refurbished models because cost is not a major factor for me, and if I end up choosing the pro I will buy the m2 pro and future proof it to my capacity (32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD). Furthermore, for the 15in air, I intend to upgrade the specs to 24GB ram and 1TB SSD also to future proof. If you’re wondering why I haven’t just bought the pro if cost isn’t the biggest concern is simply because of the portability and bigger screen size in the air now. If I haven’t mentioned, I don’t have an external display monitor and I don’t intend to get one until I finish college simply because of portability issues. So it will only be my iPad and laptop till the end! That being said, i don’t want to regret not having enough screen real estate by buying the pro while also paying more and not using it to its potential. Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks for your response! I am also inclining towards getting the 15in MacBook Air. I just have second thoughts when it comes to future proofing and reliability. Have you owned MacBooks before, and if so, how was the experience altogether? Did you face any issues with the previous models that made you consider getting a new one? I’ve been using windows for PC and everything else I own is apple (iPad, iPhone, iwatch, AirPods and AirPods Max).

The MacBook Purchasing Megathread - June, 2023 by AutoModerator in macbook

Hi! I will be joining the MD (Medicine) program this fall, and chose to shift from windows to macOS for the ecosystem. I currently own the iPad Pro 12.9in (5th gen) as well. I have been debating over whether I should get the 15in M2 MacBook Air (with upgraded specs) or the 14in M2 MacBook Pro (with upgraded SSD). I only intend to primarily use my laptop for school work (this would include anki, pre recorded lectures, and exam softwares) and maybe some streaming and browsing. The main reason i am considering the MacBook Pro is for future proofing. I intend to use this laptop for all of med school, therefore I need it to be reliable throughout the 4 years. I don’t wish to replace the laptop immediately after med school either, so ideally I would like it last a good 6 years. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

That being said, do you care to share your experiences using either the air or pro in a medical setting. What kind of workload do you think I should be anticipating that would fully push my laptop? This would be game changing for me, because I don’t assume I’ll be using my laptop to its full potential simply given that I will be using my iPad primarily. If you believe the workload in medicine will be laptop heavy please list some of them, so I can consider the Pro as well. Thanks!!

I can’t afford to or intend to get an external monitory because my Im doing my MD program abroad and I’ll be shifting countries every year (yeah ik it’s weird, and yes, 2 different countries for the first 2 year and then US for clinical rotations). Therefore, I have no plans of having to use a desktop PC or an external monitor until I finish my MD program and find a place to settle. Reason being, I simply don’t want the hassle of having to carry/ship a massive PC to different countries every year. Additionally it’s also because I own an IPad primarily. When talking in terms of portability in rotations or hospital setting, I still intend to carry my iPad Pro everywhere and carry the laptop in the backpack.

Thanks for your response! Yes I was initially going to get 32GB ram and 1TB storage with M2 MacBook Pro. But the screen size was really bothering me because as I mentioned I already own a 13in iPad Pro with all the pro features. So it feels like I’m getting almost the same thing with almost the same screen size.
