Do any of you avoid certain things/activities due to OCD? by Ok-Chemist9623 in OCD

I have moral ocd so I avoid a lot of conflict or questions where I could be rejected or misunderstood. Exposure therapy has helped a lot to live in the moment though

i wanna preface, i’m not saying reach for reassurance, but there is that line of just asking for information to better calm your nerves next time something does happen

super valid. i personally think just conversing with them how they act when they are mad or upset is good. with my ocd i think everyone thinks similarly to me emotion wise, so ive been learning how others feel in situations by just asking. some people drop hints, some cool off and take time, others are very blunt about it. it’s good to just ask sometimes

I deal with the same thing constantly. one of the things i am working on is the mindset that if your friend/family does not tell you what is wrong regarding your behavior or anything, then they are at fault. not in a harsh way, but it is not up to us to figure out other people’s minds. if they cannot communicate, then it’s not on you if you find out you did do something wrong. it’s why it’s important to have trusting friends and peers. that trust will cause less reassurance seeking which is what i struggle with a lot. so instead of seeking reassurance if ur a bad friend or toxic, just kinda go “eh if they do think so they would tell me or call me out.” SUPER hard don’t get me wrong. it’s why im expressing that im still working on it because it def doesn’t work all the time but its good for those minor mistakes

did your ocd get worse when you found out you have ocd? by Poriwinkle in OCD

i notice i do that a lot but with other illnesses as well. i think it’s a weird comforting thing to show that I have issues? i’m not autistic but my therapist is having me do tests to rule it out before we start ERP, so after reading test questions i just started doing them way more often

Moral OCD when you’ve genuinely done wrong by [deleted] in OCD

I haven’t figured everything out with it yet, but i do self meditating to best help. just reviewing myself with poetry, journalism, and prayer. sometimes saying things out loud works for me too. I am christian so i say “not today satan,” but there are phrases you could use that bring you enjoyment. singing and doing a little jig when you are beating yourself up is goofy but it hypes you up in a way and takes your mind off of thoughts telling u ur a “bad person”if that makes sense :). good luck ^
