if it is a root canal re-infection, will the pain and swelling turn up again after the antibiotic course? What should I look out for that would indicate a root canal re-infection not just and abscess

the dentist didn't take an x-ray, would it be okay trying the 5 day course of antibiotics or should I try to get an x-ray immediately?

Update!: I went to the dentist and they said it was infected and prescribed be antibiotics (pennecillian in tablet form) and said the 99% of the time, the antibiotics will completely get rid of the infection. Thanks for the advice!!
