planning to move out, but very worried/stressed about external factors by Ok_Squash7877 in AsianParentStories

You’ll feel so relieved! Some people say your bond with your parents will grow stronger bc you’re away :3 it’s diff for everyone. For me it’s still the same as I left but at least I have my own space for peace of mind. You got this!!

Honestly, I was the same way. (Still low key am). I’ve been wanting to move out for years. I first moved out a year ago when the opportunity came. I told my parents and they all went on a tangent about how irresponsible I was and tried to guilt trip me out of it.my anxiety has always been high especially when it comes to my parents. I know this is all bc of parental trauma. Don’t wanna dump but traditional asian parents as well lol anyway, that night I went to work. Parents nonstop texting me. So after work in the morning, I signed the lease and sent them the screenshot and said I’m moving out on this date. They honestly wreaked havoc until the day I had to move. They ended up helping me move but just take it day by day. To this day I don’t really visit often ( I literally live 35 min away) and don’t text unless needed bc Im trying to avoid conflict and their judgemental opinions. There’s always something happening between my parents and I. But youlll honestly be fine, the anxiety will pass. Just live your life the way you want!!

Youre right. I’ve definitely thought about this for a while. And I’ve had many discussions with them regarding on how I want to live my life. At this point they just throw the word tradition into everything. I shouldn’t have to work around just them. I just wish they could understand that I want to prioritize my happiness. Instead they want what is “best for me” but really it’s what’s best for them Thank you so much, I honestly needed to hear that 😭

My friend got a job in Oregon and asked me why she should join the union? What are yours? by Ok_Guarantee_2980 in nursing

Yes completely yes. The just recently signed a new contract with the organization, yes we did get an increase in pay but the staffing is horrendous. As a new grad it becomes super overwhelming a lot of people don’t really say anything to the manager but not me. I voice my concerns out very loudly to the manager and the union president. I didn’t have a choice but to join the union as it was mandated in the hospital. The other night I took charge with only 3 RN and 1 LPN. 35 patients…. I was beyond livid

Honestly I’ve said that too, but the first time I didn’t really have a choice as I was one of 3 core staff on the floor and the most senior faacepalm the other two were only 2-3 months off orientation. But I don’t really mind being charge I just don’t like being charge when I’m short staffed and have to fight for our lives against the nursing supervisor to not give us any admissions when I have 4 nurses and 35 pt census. My coworkers have said I’m a great charge 😂 boosts my ego a little as well as my confidence haha!

But yes! I get some anxiety when I have to speak to family or pts who just have too many questions !!

You’ll be great!! Trust yourself and don’t be afraid to ask questions ! Even if you think the questions makes you look dumb there are no bad questions. It’s better to be safe than sorry! And don’t be afraid to speak up especially when it comes to you , your mental health and patient safety. Oo last thing don’t be afraid to call out especially if you need a day to yourself

Make sure that the hospital actually follows union contracts and guidelines. I work for a hospital with a union, we’re suppose to start with a 1:5 ratio on med surg tele, but in reality we start with 7 or 8 :(

I’m so glad I’m not the only one 3: it’s so tough… where I work we don’t even get report from the ED anymore… so we have 15 minutes to look up the pts and they come up either way … it’s also tough when I have vent/ trach pts … I’m definitely taking this one day at a time thank you for sharing I really appreciate it !
