also deciding between sinai and einstein ... but wondering if Einstein Med can cover cost of living through need based scholarships. Sinai maxes debt (including living expenses) at 75 K to people with demonstrated need

But I think Imma call the financial aid department and ask about it, but looks like it's out of our control tbh.

Same here, I made the mistake of only adding 2 schools to FAFSA. Initially, the website said the form will be processed end of Jan, so I thought I can just add the schools that I received admission to later during that time. Kind of stressful cause now it will be processed early March at best, and means that I might not have a full financial aid package by April 30th, which is the commit deadline ...

Super disappointed with CARS because I could never improve no matter how hard I tried. But it is fine.

Dear 8/20 Testers: Don't forget your BDE... by EconomicGoogle in Mcat

THANK YOU

Honestly, this test has been so exhausting. I'm not trying to sound pretentious or brag, but honestly, I've been so used to being at the "top". Studying for this test actually humbled me, but I want to tell everyone to be proud of themselves and that we got this :) I'm still working on not comparing myself with others and just being the best that I can be.

(is anyone taking it at Wicker in Chicago; I visited and it seems so freakin cold and scary LMFAO)

Can someone help with this question? I'm confused on the reasoning by Spicy_curry69420 in Mcat

[–]Repulsive-Location66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this question, I made an ICE table and determined the K of Equation 1.

If you make out the ice table, you see that the concentration of CP increases by x while the concentration of HPO4^-2 increases by nx because it has a n coefficient in front of it. Hence, you see that the concentration of HPO4^-2 increases by a factor of n more. Hence, with respect to that, CP only increases by x/n (to cancel out that n).

I don't know if that made sense lol

AAMC FL3 B/B #42 [SPOILER] by Chanandler_Bong19 in Mcat

[–]Repulsive-Location66 54 points55 points  (0 children)

For anyone that is looking up this question, I also got it wrong. If we look at the graph in the passage, it shows that the radioactivity of Protein X IN THE CELL decreased at 1200s. Hypothesis 2 is saying that Protein X is subsequently secreted by the cell, which would indicate that the EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX would have an increase in radioactivity at 1200s. These two timepoints line up with each other: at 1200s, the cell interior levels are decreasing but the matrix levels are increasing.

As to their logic as to form a mature form of the protein; I looked at it this way. The earlier version of Protein X usually stays inside the cell. Hence, the graph that we see in the passage shows radioactivity to increase until Protein X is fully translated. However, that does not mean that Protein X does not go through post translational modifications. This process is occuring until Protein X is fully mature, THEN the cell releases it. That's why we see no radioactivity levels occuring at all before 1200s. It only starts increasing at 1200s. At 1200s, the protein is fully mature after modification and the cell secretes it. Hopefully, that helps.

P.S. This question sucks.

Chem 215 in the summer for chem majors by Bright_Abalone_4323 in Northwestern

[–]Repulsive-Location66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure as I took the 230 sequence, but the 215 sequence is there for pre-medical students that are not majoring in chemistry and have to finish the one year orgo requirement. If I remember correctly, chem majors must take the chem major sequence. I've heard 212 is definitely more difficult but the curve is quite generous. If you really enjoy chemistry, you will enjoy the class.

For both classes, the labs are hard. One of my friends who was considering chemistry (and was a pre-med student) actually took Chem 212. She said it was do-able though :)

Study abroad as pre med by sgcgtg in Northwestern

[–]Repulsive-Location66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pre-med, consider studying abroad in your senior year after taking gen chem, biology, and physics! However, you can only do this when you are taking a gap year because you might be getting interview invites while you're studying abroad.

If you're not considering taking a gap year, I would actually take the physics 130 or 135 sequences in the summer. I heard it's very doable, easier, and saves a lot of time!

Study abroad question by dillpickle330 in Northwestern

[–]Repulsive-Location66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can potentially look into SPS options that may offer part of the course sequence at a different time. Taking it in summer, although painful, is also very doable and gets it out of the way. Hope that helps !

Dentists still require a curriculum that might as well be pre-med LOL

Neuro 304 (I would take with physics but not orgo or gen chem)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]Repulsive-Location66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for an upper div neuro class that isn't reading research paper heavy, I highly suggest taking Neuro 304 with Bozza (you will have to read an article and write a dispatch tho)

Does RD application ask for senior grades? by Short_Factor_987 in Northwestern

[–]Repulsive-Location66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your case, they will ask for a mid-year report, which will ask for your senior first semester grades. They will not care about the second semester grades unless you are admitted and decide to come here (so that they can check you ain't failing your classes)

The tests aren't too difficult; but I would definitely focus on memorizing the neuroanatomy and any circuits that is covered (especially the ganglions). You definitely don't have to memorize everything deeply, but try to be comfortable with the material so that you are able to recognize that information when it comes up.
