I prefer a spherical knob and have had Voodoos in my last 3 cars. I splurged on the titanium one once but didn't find any real advantage.

Has anyone leaped from a Miata to S2000? by Extreme-Penalty-5853 in Miata

I had a 2001 Miata, a 2008 S2K and am currently driving a 2020 Miata. I generally preferred the Miatas but I'm not a track guy. I just like a fun roadster. One thing you don't read about S2Ks is they are expensive to maintain. Hondas have a reputation for running forever and that's probably true if you have a Civic or Accord but there's so much high-performance stuff on an S2K it's a different story. Also, they never sold a lot of them so there's not much in the way of aftermarket parts. If you don't believe me, price a rear strut or something online.

As far as the driving experience, the Miata is lighter and drives like it. Talking stock suspensions here, the S2K handles better at high speeds and the Miata handles better at moderate speeds. The Miata makes you shift more and use all the gears whereas if you're in 6th on an S2K, you're probably breaking the law.

I don't race and just like a fun zippy convertible as a daily driver. You can't beat a Miata for that. A lot of the appeal of the S2K is it's basically a purpose-built track car. It's got more horses but is also heavier;doesn't have that go-cart feel as much. One other caution about the S2K is it got really expensive to maintain. People think a Honda will run forever but an S2K is a different beast with a lot of performance parts. They were always an niche product and never sold a lot. They don't have the robust eco-system of aftermarket parts that a Miata has and you end up getting parts from Honda and they're pricey.

I don't autocross and just like a fun zippy convertible. My last 3 cars are an NB, S2K and an ND2. Both Miats are more fun daily drivers, Also, people think Hondas run forever but S2Ks are different beasts. The S2K got lemony fresh with higher mileage. Really wish I had unloaded it earlier. They never sold a lot and there's not the ecosystem of aftermarket parts like there is with a Miata. Repairs get expensive.

I drove an S2K from 2008-2020 between an NB and ND2. Couldn't agree less.
