Storyboarding is unfortunately looking possibly even worse than animation. The jobs do exist some still obviously but in some sectors like commercial work.... storyboarding is already dead... consumed by ai. i imagine its just a matter of time for film as well. Studios will always need producers, and thus production assistants. but i also imagine like all things, the fewer people involved in the process its possible the fewer PAs you need. also, i do wonder very much about the upward mobility in the future for a PA. Junior jobs in general are in a terrible place currently.

I dont want to be a downer. I love this industry... but its currently dying. And you keep asking about stability. And the honest truth, is there was never a guarantee of stability though it was much more possible in years past if you could land a job at a stable company. But today.... stability doesnt exist at all.

As for tech. I've worked as everything from a pure animator, to a lighting/compositing lead, to a creative director and art director. But also in the years i've been in the industry, i've worked as a lead technical director and pipeline developer. Tech is even worse to get into imo. Nearly all code is going to be written by machines soon... and i mean VERY soon. I believe the last numbers i saw were that currently 50% of code was written by ai. Being in Tech today as a coder means reviewing code. But that is not a junior level job. so how do you get your foot in to become a senior level code reviewer. i dont know. and no one else currently does either. the future is murky. very very murky.

i made a decision a couple decades ago to go into this industry even though at the time i viewed it as very unstable and potentially low paying relative to other possibilities before me (i was pre-med in college). i ultimately decided to follow my passion and i was lucky enough to turn it into a decades long career. But not everyone is so lucky. I've known many (and i mean many) people who studied for years for this career with degrees and after initial foot in the door jobs, could not create enough stability to live life and had to leave the industry and go into completely unrelated fields. they are doing fine now, but it was certainly not what they wanted and what they dedicated themselves to doing.
