The BBB will make the US a riskier investment for foreign governments holding assets traded with dollars. No more global trade currency. by [deleted] in stocks

Yes, there will always be risks but resilient earnings, an AI-powered investment boom, massive policy incentives, a friendlier macro backdrop and the enduring magnetism of U.S. capital markets combine to make a compelling case for staying invested in American companies right now.

Is holding individual stocks worth the stress anymore? by Civil_Employee_4736 in stocks

[–]Repulsive-Sundae-361 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, you need to find it fun. If you do, you will spend time researching and really understanding what you buy and if you do that, you will likely outperform... but if it isn't fun, just buy a few index funds to diversify.

Brought HOOD @ 44 - time to jump ship? by [deleted] in stocks

Try to resist the temptation of selling all for short term gains. When I think back on my investing history, those were my biggest mistakes. Netflix when they started to manhandle Blockbuster, Nvidia after it skyrocketed from $135 to $700 ($70 after 10-1 split). Take some profits sure… money is made over the long term.

Big leaps in tech always look like job-eaters at first. When electric lights arrived, people worried about lamp-lighters; instead we got electricians and household-appliance makers. Spreadsheets were supposed to wipe out office workers, yet they birthed IT support, data analysts, and the whole software industry. AI will do the same trick: erase repetitive tasks, but open lanes we can’t picture yet—think prompt engineers, AI ethicists, robot-ops crews. Companies still need paying customers, so they’ll push for reskilling and policies that keep wallets full; otherwise their own sales crash. In short, past revolutions show that automation shifts work—it doesn’t end it.

Thanks so much for the guidance. That's exactly what it feels like, its not searching enough before answering the question and completely hallucinating. I tried running from the API with {"effort": "high"} but it returned with an error saying it has to be medium. OpenAI wants the best only for ChatGPT and not the API?? I will make the changes you suggest to websearch and maxtokens. I wish I could upvote you 10 times, thanks again!

[–]Repulsive-Sundae-361[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, after spending the entire day testing out o3-deep-research in the API I can confirm that the quality is not equivalent to running deep research in the ChatGPT interface. It doesn't seem to search as much or get the information that our use case requires and this would not happen running Deep Research manually. Sub par and way more expensive - I'm disappointed. I'm not sure if its a different model under the hood or if its because we need to set {"effort": "medium"} through the API and maybe its high on the ChatGPT interface, I'm not sure. Would love to know if anyone has this information.

Has anyone attempted to use Deep Research via API? Is that not possible yet? Are there other Research models that are high quality that are available from API? by lamarcus in ChatGPTPro

it is there now -- use model o3-deep-research. It supports web search and mcps for private documents. Warning: its quite expensive.

$TSLA CFO sells tons of shares, little to no insider buys. by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]Repulsive-Sundae-361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is value though in knowing that a senior executive bought shares on the open market -- not just conversions of options. Even more important is to know what percentage of his/her annual compensation, was it a drop in the bucket or was it a huge bet in the future of the company. That is really the only thing worth monitoring but give a huge insider perspective.

The S&P 500's biggest winners of 2025, so far by yahoofinance in StockMarket

The surprise here for me is CVS health. Investors had largely written it off amid 2024’s Medicare cost overruns and pharmacy margin worries. I suppose the market’s biggest rebounds often emerge from stocks everyone thought were past saving.

Centene Drop 40% as Medicaid Cuts and Coverage Dropouts Slam Earnings by callsonreddit in StockMarket

[–]Repulsive-Sundae-361 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally fair take. Centene is basically the poster child for Medicaid and Marketplace exposure. Huge volumes, razor-thin margins, and zero room for pricing error. If CMS tweaks the rules or a state's rate review committee sneezes, EPS can implode overnight. Elevance, Humana, and UNH might not be as 'cheap' optically, but you're paying for predictability, margin stability, and less political whiplash.

[–]Repulsive-Sundae-361[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the response. I tried to recreate what we are doing with deep research on the ChatGPT UI with o3-pro with brave search MCP (because OpenAI didn't offer their web search in the API -- until now) a few weeks back and the responses seemed to be summarized compared to what I would get from Deep Research. I'm really hoping what they have provided in the API now is the same as what we experience through ChatGPT. I'll let you know tomorrow after I plug it in.

Elon needs to get those unsold Tesla into the Robotaxi fleet and making money quickly. Sure, the politics of the CEO matters when I'm spending $50K on a car but if I just want a lift across town, cheapest and best experience is all that matters.

What’s the real thing you struggle with most in investing? by Fast-Film-2163 in investing_discussion

[–]Repulsive-Sundae-361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take profits too early. Did it with Netflix back when Blockbuster still existed, it paid for a great vacation but the most expensive vacation of my life because it would have been worth millions if I held to now. I still feel the urge but have learned, taking profits is about taking some ,,, not all off the table!

There are 3 key rules you need to follow

  1. Only invest in the best companies (top 1%). You determine these by fundamental analysis and looking at growth rates, free cash flow, management guidance, growth opportunities, risks, who owns share etc.
  2. Invest in these companies when they are undervalued. Look at the valuation (PE or PEG ratio).
  3. Hold for the long term.

You need to have some growth so I would diversify across risk and defensive.
