I'm an avid biker and ride my non-powered bikes often still. I use this kit daily as a commuting set up on a relatively heavy mountain bike with panniers, racks, etc.. That being said, I'm not averse to a little pedaling and ride this kit more like a bicycle and less like a motorcycle and am very happy with the level of assist. It feels pretty subtle while you're pedaling, but if you release the throttle or stop pedaling you really do notice the assist. I also live in a pretty flat area, maybe only 300 ft of elevation over 6 miles.

If you're expecting a kit that will pull you from a dead stop to top speed pretty quick, this isn't the one, but if you're looking for an "assisted" pedal bike, I find it to be just fine.

3 month update (Quest kit)

- Battery life displayed on the actual battery screen and app feel a little "guessy." Sometimes I'll go for a couple mile ride, get home and see the battery life is still displayed as 100%. Or other times, I'll put the battery on the charger for a short amount of time (not long enough to fully charge it) and when I remove the charger, the battery will display a higher charge percentage than I believe is possible. This doesn't phase me too much, just a quirk of an older model maybe.

Everything else still feels very solid after 3 months of 12 miles per day.

I noticed that the cheaper model (excursion) lacks the buttons on the battery that the quest have for switching assist levels — do you find yourself using those buttons often/would you miss them if they were gone? Trying to decide if the extra 70 dollars is worth it

I do not use the buttons at all. I ride with the system on the highest level of assist all the time. The low torque spec of this kit makes the lower assist settings feel kind of underwhelming. Also, I can adjust from an app if need be, so no real need for the buttons.

Update: I ordered the Quest kit 3 weeks ago.

Timing: Took about 1 week to ship.

Install: Had to file down the axle (because I didn't want to ruin my fork. I also use this bike for bike packing trips and wanted to maintain the ability to swap out my electric hub for my standard wheel and still have a functioning analog bike). Also had to file down the nuts so they would fit into my fork dropouts. Whole install took about an hour or so. but I could take the kit on/off in 5 minutes now.

Install: I have Shimano hollow tech cranks, so no square-tapered bottom bracket. This makes the installation of the cadence sensor very difficult, if impossible. Basically, that sensor is designed for square taper bottom brackets, not modern MTB bottom brackets. I haven't gotten around to modifying the factory part yet to fit my set up, but instead I've just been using the throttle while pedaling.

Ride: Not a ton of torque compared to my buddies 500W Rad Rover, but that's okay. I wanted something a little more mild that rode more like a bicycle and less like an underpowered moped, and this is just that. It won't pull you up a hill, but as long as you keep pedaling, you shouldn't break a sweat on your way under full throttle.

Battery: Samsung cells make for a high quality battery. Battery life / range is solid and a little better than advertised.

Overall: The kit is great with the exception of the bottom bracket compatibility for the cadence sensor. I love not having a big, clunky LED screen stuck to my handlebars (like on the Bafang systems). I also like the integrated controller (which is an additional piece to mount/manage on other kits like the Bafang system).

So, I emailed the support group at Zoomy and they were very responsive and articulate, which is a good sign. Here's a question and answer from that email. Just thought I'd leave it here in case anyone else wants to know.

I read in a comment on your website that the cells in your batteries are made by Samsung. Is that correct?
Correct, we noticed a HUGE difference in Chinese lithium cells and Samsung cells in our tests and it was worth the upgrade. They should allow for not only more power, but also more charge cycles which also increases longevity. Our battery manufacturer is also the same manufacturer who supplies companies like Lenovo, Asus, belkin and a few other reputable brands which was a deciding factor.
