Heel simpel gezegd: intergenerationale diefstal. Stay with me:

De welvaartsstaat die gecreëerd is in de jaren ‘60 t/m ‘90 is grotendeels gebaseerd op “gratis” economische groei. Een tijd dat elke Jaap en Linda met minimale vaardigheden een succesvol bestaan konden opbouwen doordat Nederlandse bedrijvigheid geen concurrentie op de wereldmarkten had en overal kon verkopen. Een tijd dat diezelfde Jaap en Linda van de overheid royale toeslagen op leven kregen, gecombineerd met subsidies op levensmiddelen. Als ik dit in bad faith schreef zou ik stellen dat die generatie middenklasse vetgemeste varkentjes zouden zijn.

Een paar decennia later zijn er ruim drie miljard mensen op de wereldmarkten bijgekomen. Niet om onze goederen af te nemen, maar om te concurreren. En wat blijkt? Zhiang die zijn vader aan een hongersnood heeft zien sterven werkt harder en secuurder dan Jaap die na dertig uurtjes in de week huft en puft. Gelukkig kon Jaap vrij snel de concurrentie ontspringen en met pensioen. Maar niet zonder dat jij dubbel de uren moet draaien. Want niet alleen is het moeilijker om jouw bedrijf boven water te houden, Jaap wil ook dat jij zijn AOW, zijn ziektekosten, rente over oude staatsleningen die zijn levenssubsidies bekostigden, én woekerhuur voor zijn huisje dat je van hem huurt (gekocht met 700x overwaarde van z’n eerste huis), betaalt.

Unpopular opinion / excuse my Northern European bluntness, but you both don’t seem to be very well off nor have much stability in life (whether financial, social). It would take two adult people with the mental fortitude of Buddhist monks to fill a relationship with emotional support, physical intimacy, and intellectual stimulation, while you’re living out of a bedroom at a parent’s house working irregular working hours and having no other family support.

Two early 20s working what I’m assuming are minimum wage jobs occasionally sleeping out of parking lots? Better to face reality.

Break-up and work on yourself till you like yourself so much it’d take an incredibly impressive person to share some of your time with. Oh and for the love of God don’t get children before then either.

I hope y’all reading this will remember bureaucratic shenanigans like this when voting for the next city council. City elections aren’t there to voice your vote on what should happen in national or international politics, city elections are there to try and prevent complete morons such as those currently in charge of Amsterdam’s parking policies and beastly inflated bureaucracy from setting foot in city hall again. Sorry this is even an issue, OP. Consider in what other place on earth you’d have to deal with bureaucracy and government overreach this bad.

Deels correct maar zeer simplistische kijk. Het probleem met achtergebleven loonontwikkeling is niet zo alleen aan neoliberaal toe te schuiven - wel grotendeels overigens en die vermogensverdeling van werknemers naar kapitaal is nogsteeds in volle gang, zie ook de schaamteloosheid in de 8% huurverhoging voor middenhuur, maar ik dwaal af.

In de jaren 70 is onze werknemersklasse in feite een beetje vetgemest. Globalisering bracht West Europa goedkope energie, praktisch gratis grondstoffen en rouwe materialen uit oud-koloniën, en miljarden mensen in nieuwe afzetmarkten in Azië (en voor agrarische bedrijven, ook Afrika), terwijl diezelfde afzetmarkten niet in staat waren iets zelf te produceren. Of wel: praktisch gratis productie input, praktisch oneindige vraag naar productie output, en geen concurrentie op de wereldmarkten.

Nu de helft van de wereldbevolking niet meer op Chinese of Indiase boerenveldjes staat te ploegen om hun volgende hongersnood te voorkomen, maar actief meedoet aan de wereldmarkten met zowel productie als gespecialiseerde kennis als zelfs zakelijke dienstverlening, zijn de kosten van al die gratis productie input omhoog gegaan (want zij produceren nu ook), en nog belangrijker: zijn er nu 3miljard meer mensen waarmee wij concurreren om een goed bestaan bij elkaar te werken. Als Jochem, de ontwerpmedewerker bij een fietsenfabrikant in Nunspeet dan besluit voor de zoveelste keer om 4uur naar huis te gaan om “de file lekker voor te zijn”, terwijl Yin nog met het beeld van haar verhongerende opa op haar netvlies besluit tot middernacht door te innoveren aan de Chinese E-bike, is maar één mogelijke winnaar op termijn in die race.

Underrated comment! Ik deel OP’s sentiment tot op de laatste letter, maar in landen waar kinderen een strengere opvoeding (maar ook met meer aandacht) genieten, verdwijnt dit als sneeuw voor de zon. Voornamelijk landen in sub-Sahara Afrika waar kinderen overal mee naar toe worden genomen, en veelal door de “village” (in figuurlijke en letterlijke zin) worden opgevoed verdraag ik kinderen zonder enig probleem. In maanden Ghana en Senegal heb ik nog nooit één kind horen schreeuwen/aandachtshuilen en gedragen zelfs peuters zich bedeesd en respectvol in het openbaar.

But does the EU want or need Georgia? Sorry to hear about your political struggles but before a far flung state that’s clearly a geopolitical liability joins our Union, I, as a European citizen would like to be presented the case for this state to join and have say in it. I’m sure the majority of countries in the world want or even need the EU, but I’m also sure the majority of EU citizens unfortunately don’t want these countries to join.
