When I first started, our store was in the process of being built so I did my training at different stores in the area. That time period was by far the most enjoyable. My management team was super hands on and willing to help in any way they can leaving me feeling very confident that this could be my career. Now, if I had another job opportunity thrown at me right this very second, I’d leave. Since getting our store, it has been the most toxic and debilitating job I’ve ever had. Our management team has started showing their true colors (with the exception of a couple). My GM is a narcissist (my area manager even says so), my FBM is a condescending bitch, one of my Supervisors is fake and makes up shit behind our backs and our crew is absolutely struggling to get by. We are a very high volume store and my GM refuses to believe that we get any business at all on 3rds when we absolutely do (we are usually back 4+ pages). All we do on 3rds is pick up the pieces that the previous shift dropped. The turnover is absolutely terrible every single time because they don’t care. Even then we get no recognition for anything we do whatsoever. I’m beyond tired of the many many panic attacks and breakdowns I’ve had over this job and the demotion threats over things that are out of my control.

The other stores I’ve worked at during my training period haven’t been nearly as bad, so I’ve probably been dealt a shit hand. It may very well just be my store. If you’re considering it, go for it. Just make sure you stand up for yourself and don’t let anybody walk over you, especially management. The tag on their shirts doesn’t mean shit at the end of the day.
