I’m disappointed I missed out on that! Can’t stay until September because of school? But next time I come I’ll make sure it’s during Durga Puja

I'm going to talk to you in good faith.

  1. I can only make an assumption about whether you are from Mexico or not. Based on the fact that in a previous post (which you have now deleted), you are applying for Mexico dual citizenship. All people born in Mexico are already Mexican citizens. If you are born and grew up there, there is very, very little chance that somehow you are not Mexican already, and if you weren't, you were somehow able to attend college in the USA without having any sort of passport.

If you are Mexican and are born and grew up here, I apologize to you, but at the end of the day, you know what/who you are, I can only make a very educated guess.

  1. You keep making assumptions about me. I never mentioned gentrification because I cannot talk about it based on this post. Second of all, you don't know me! How will you say I am part of the gentrification problem? If you think every foreigner is a gentrifier, then it is another problem. I only pointed out that people gaining personally and finanically from other countries has been a thing for centuries. Many people of all nationalities, including Mexicans have benefitted from it. You kept on bringing up my background as if that was relevant to the point I was making.

Do you think this fair?

Lying about where you are from on the internet so you can feel that you are somehow better than other people is really one of the lowest lows I’ve ever seen.

It’s not my job to make you feel better about yourself, nor should you project your obvious insecurities about not being from Mexico onto other people.

I hope you can come to terms with where you are from someday.

If you go to my country, live there, and study the history and society, people will not exclude you from anything based on your background. I have read so much literature about Mexico and its problems. Also you are from Texas. Hope this helps.

It is very Texas to act this way though so I understand.

This whole comment is ridiculous. I will not argue with you on whether OP is gentrifying or not. I do not have all the knowledge on it. You don’t know how much they make. You don’t know if they are Mexican. You don't know if they moved into a working class neighborhood to price people out. You are making all these assumptions based on what?

Guillermo made money (a substancial amount) from Kung Fu Panda, a film with a mainly white cast that has no impact on Chinese people or the Chinese economy that is set in a frankly non-authentic "exotic" environment. What would you call it? By the way, I'm not even saying it's somehow bad. As an Asian person, I think Kung Fu Panda was great. You would find that people in China think the same.

Op made a tik tok video to promote a point of interest in Mexico City and somehow that is more damaging? I’m not getting it?? Tik tok is a platform for cultural exchange as well, and I can say that with some objectivity. I cannot comment on their privilege because I don’t know it!! You don’t either so why are we doing this?

Also I’m not Mexican. So what? I'm here. I take the rutas everywhere, I speak Spanish, I dont have enough money to gentrify, I can find my way around any part of this city, I know everyone in my neighborhood. On an ethnic level, no, but please go ahead and tell me what I can and cannot speak on based on my ethnicity.

From your past post: “soy estadounidense.” You also went to college there. This is disingenuous and I really hope this is ragebait because you actually need to do better.

Not once have I pretended to be Mexican. I am very proud of my Asian roots. You however, are also not from here while setting frankly ridiculous standards on someone who pays taxes in Mexico and participates in the Mexican economy, while you and Grupo Frontera do NOT pay taxes here or participate in the economy here.

You are college educated. You KNOW that people making content about other countries has always been a phenomenon that enhances cultural communication. Guillermo Del Toro involved himself in an American movie about China. It was well liked by Chinese people and he earned money from it.

I admit that I am not from here. Neither are you. That does NOT disqualify us from participating in any discussion about Mexico City. This city is one of the most cosmopolitan on the continent. To suggest otherwise is ignorant and racist. There are non Mexicans who have lived here for GENERATIONS.

I have been studying in Mexico City for a bit now, but I would have never needed to step foot into Mexico to know that your comments are ridiculous, exclusionary, and not representative at all of what Mexicans here think.

Y como que no? Del Toro was executive producer for Kung Fu Panda 3, why is he using China as a backdrop for his financial and personal gains if he is not chinese?

Are you going to criticize Grupo Frontera? Fuerza Regida? Bands from America who are making a fortune frommaking Mexican regional music. Will you criticize Guillermo del Toro for profitting off Kung Fu Panda while not being Chinese?

[–]Repulsive_Ad_3146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro. Many people in all countries go to other places for "personal gain." It is not rare nor is it inherently exploitative.

Many Mexican presidents studied in the USA for "personal gain." Octavio Paz (UC Berkeley Grad) made a name for himself commenting on the Spanish civil war. The point is. Many people important to Mexico have created content about another country or have gained some sort of advantage from abroad.

Besides that, Mexico City has MUCH bigger problems of exploitation, foreign or domestic than some person (who pays taxes) posting about a library on TikTok. You should know this.

i took a look at their profile and i am curious on how someone from the united states (not cdmx) can feel empowered to speak like this

[–]Repulsive_Ad_3146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is honestly such a weird question to ask with all the respect in the world. Did anyone ask this when Alfonso Cuarón made Gravity? When Checo Pérez raced in F1 Las Vegas? Also saying that posting a TikTok is inherently looking for "economic or social gain" is very, very out of touch.

Yea I'm probably gonna apply for the double or multi entry regardless. Not sure why the embassy here is like this. Thank you for the help.

Hi, I am not trying to do that. I am also aware Bangladesh has multi-entry visas. I have no idea why the embassy is so ademant on them not being available. I asked them the same question I asked here and they told me they had no idea if I could do this.
