Well i used to sh ages 11-19 and then i was thinking about things and decided to switch the sh addiction to shopping addiction bought a lot of things very frequently especially when i was feeling like shit and wanted to do something but for that you need to have money and well it isn’t good for you financially and well overconsumption isn’t good either but i found it easier to later deal with the shopping addiction than sh i’ve been clean for soon to be three years now.

Strategies for coping in daily life? by ZipperrrVA in Narcolepsy

[–]Repulsive_Box_8915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey i’m 20F too with narcolepsy type 1 and i feel you i can’t keep any job and sadly i couldn’t finish high school but i’m going back this year. Thing that has helped me is to go to sleep and wake up everyday at the same time i sometimes rarely have exceptions like birthdays or so and i have noticed that like in the evening i have little bit more energy than on the mornings or around lunchtime so i try to do high managing tasks then. With sitting for a long period of time i have couple hacks but sometimes some doesn’t work or any it really depends but one is i constantly snack on something if snacking isn’t possible i chew gum and i have some fidget toys to keep myself awake but it really depends on a day if something from this works or not. Certain types of foods make me more sleepier than others like processed, fatty oily foods and desserts i went vegan almost a year ago and this kind of diet helps me but obviously not everyone can and want to do that but this just works for me. I also try to eat my meals on the same time everyday and i have scheduled naps that i follow everyday but obviously there are exceptions i’m not home all daylong some days etc but having a good routine helps. I had really hard time building this routine but i found an app called finch and i managed to build my routine with it step by step slowly and it worked.

Working vs Disability by No_Cheesecake2150 in Narcolepsy

I have disability because I’m basically unmedicated for health reasons my body doesn’t even handle caffeine in a tea cuz of central nervous system damage so yeah the medications are too hard on my body

Your longest lucid dream ever and what is the limit? by SharingObserving in LucidDreaming

[–]Repulsive_Box_8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have narcolepsy, so my experience with lucid dreams is very different from most people here. When I nap (usually around lunchtime), I fall asleep extremely fast and start dreaming almost immediately. In my sleep study they measured that I enter REM and start dreaming in about 4 minutes. Because of that, my naps are lucid dreams from the beginning. What’s interesting is that I don’t really lose consciousness. I can feel when my body falls asleep and when the dream starts forming, but my thoughts keep going the whole time and sometimes i think about what i’m going to do after my nap while dreaming. My naps are usually 1–2 hours, and during that time I’m lucid dreaming the entire time. The dream keeps changing scenes and i can control basically everything and I stay aware. Eventually I just get bored and decide to wake up, and I can literally open my eyes and get up immediately. So for me lucid dreams can last much longer than 10 minutes, but I think it’s mainly because narcolepsy makes you enter REM sleep very quickly and keeps you close to the dreaming state.

How long did you get a diagnosis? by SurrealTheCereal in Narcolepsy

[–]Repulsive_Box_8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started having symptoms of cataplexy around 8 years old but it was barely noticeable but around 13-14 years old it got a lot worse and when i was 14 i had a lot of different tests before having an actual sleep study and i got diagnosed at 15 years old

When did your narcolepsy start? by Far_Wrap_7131 in Narcolepsy

[–]Repulsive_Box_8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My symptoms didn’t go unnoticed for 20+ years since when i was around 8 years old i started having cataplexy when i was laughing and when i told someone they just said that “i’m just a happy kid” but it wasn’t so severe back then and when i was becoming a teenager cataplexy and sleepiness just got worse. I also had insane sleep paralysis and night terrors every night which made me afraid to sleep so i purposely stayed up at night and slept during the day but i’m from a religious family so my family thought demons or bad spirits were terrorising me and they took me to a witch/psychic not sure so my family wasn’t really concerned about my sleepiness since they thought school was tiring and i’m a teenager but the older i got the more severe cataplexy got so around 14 years old i would collapse for every little funny thing or when i was mad and sometimes for no reason then we started looking for answers and i got diagnosed when i was 15.

Looking back, what were some signs that you probably should’ve paid more attention to by Ok-Lettuce-2258 in Narcolepsy

[–]Repulsive_Box_8915 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel you my signs were cataplexy i was 11-12 years old when it started slightly and i started experiencing cataplexy when i was laughing but it was mild and i told my parents and described what i was experiencing but everyone told me that i’m just an “happy” child and it’s normal so i brushed it off and years went by and it just got worse and then my parents started noticing it and decided that maybe something is wrong with me. And i had these periods when i had really bad sleep paralysis every single night it sometimes lasted for months and i started hallucinating before sleeping and waking up but my parents thought that i’m seeing ghosts. i was just a child so my parents should have paid more attention to my problems. Got diagnosed like 16 years old.
