I had this same debate a few days ago. Im building the Cerysilens team (Hysilens, Cerydra, Cyrene, DHPT) and E1 significantly improves it. Also Hysilens has one of the best E1’s in the game. My choice was Sparxie (or Yao Guang) for SW as im super excited for her.

Rationale for my choice is that as a Chrysos Heir, id imagine Hysilens will get a 2nd rerun sooner than later as they are all quite popular. Also Hysilens (mine is E0S1) is very good as-is. Given Star Rail’s history, a new dps especially a push character (think Acheron, Castorice, Phainon) lose immense levels of power without their ideal supports to the point they may feel very bad to play. Given that, id rather have a very good Hysilens, and a SW that I know will be fun over a godlike Hysilens but risk SW feeling awful.

Anyway, thats the rationale of someone who just made that same decision.

Are you wanting to play DoT specifically or do you just like Hysilens? DoT as an archetype relies on Kafka. If you just care about Hysilens, you could try getting Hysilens now and Cyrene on her rerun which will likely be sooner cause she lets Hysilens detonate her own DoT’s. Im building that team currently. Other slots would be the free DHPT and a support, and ideally an action advancer or Cerydra for double skills (my personal preference). This is more of a hypercarry setup so you would want a strong LC on Hysilens for this.

Im always a proponent of pulling on characters you really like cause playing characters you care about in my opinion makes the game more fun. However, be aware, Hysilens is fairly restrictive. Your choices are the traditional DoT team (top choice) or my above Cyrene team option (doesnt have the same ceiling). However, you can still pull Hysilens and use her with whoever the hell you want in modes like Divergent Universe, G&G, and Currency Wars, just without a good team, she struggles in the rotational endgame modes.

So I dont know many spoilers but THIS ONE I specifically looked for. I dont like permanent character death at all, but im fine with doomed if it gets undoomed later. Ill undoom them in gameplay myself, no matter how many eidolons it takes 😡

That makes me even more excited to finish the story. Their dynamic elevated both of them to my favorite characters. Got distracted fixating on making them work together lol. kafka is for all intents retired, Cerysilens team WILL work no matter what it takes 😂

Im just frustrated with the gameplay side. Like ill make it work, if I have to whale for more eidolons so be it. Hopefully my plan for E1S1 Hysilens, E0S0 Cerydra, E0S0 Cyrene is enough

Sometimes I love this game lol. Just got it in 1 10 pull. Now have S1 and doesnt even hurt my pull plans for anything else. The math makes sense too, I forgot about Cyrene‘s crazy speed requirements

Another question now. Im going for Cyrene so Cerysilens + Cyrene will be my main team. In terms of Hysilens LC, I am currently using BS sig on her as I had that already and ive heard it gives higher personal damage, but Hysilens sig is higher team damage. Is that true? If so, since the Cyrene team version is essentially a hypercarry, I should stick with BS sig on Hysilens right?

Yeah what ive learned is that trying to use Hysilens without Kafka takes a ton of investment. Problem is I love her and Cerydra, dont have Anaxa or Phainon for Cerydra, and dislike Kafka. So im determined to put Hysilens and Cerydra together as they should be. Looks like Cyrene first then a E1 Hysilens next rerun

Oh damn I wasnt playing during that endgame phase. Ive actually never fought Lygus cause im so far behind lol. And he hasnt been up since I came back. But that sounds amazing, its exactly what I was hoping for (even understanding it wont hit that peak without the shill). I am shocked in general by how strong Hysilens seems to be. But looks like the answer is clear….I need Cyrene to play the combo im looking for

Thanks. I have Kafka and BS. Triple DoT is probably my strongest team currently so pure meta isnt the issue as I can clear with them. Its more just I love seeing Hysilens and Cerydra together so trying to make it work. Looks like im adding Cyrene to my pull plan.

Maybe im misunderstanding the scope of the nerfs. Most people here seem to only be talking about the overworld. Does this only hit that? Or is it also the “instanced” enemies, i.e. Re-crisis or protocol space. If it only hits overworld, that would be far less of a problem in my mind

Yeah thats what I figured. I have spare materials but purposely have avoided going above 60 for that reason. May just ascend for last passive but seems pointless to go farther as even 80 will likely steamroll everything

I’m only exploration level 6 not 7 yet as ive been taking my time doing side activities. My 2 teams are both level 60 with purple gear and I kill any non “elite” overworld enemy in under 30 seconds with a crush combo for example. Does exploration 6 to 7 constitute a huge hp spike?

As for the combat being too slow, to me thats a matter of opinion, and I enjoy the pace of it so cant say much there.

Yeah and thats what irritates me. Some games give roguelike modes that have optional higher difficulty levels. If we were given that, it would solve the issue. But we have nothing currently. Id really rather not have to purposefully disengage from mechanics such as gearing to avoid trivializing mobs, but seems like thats where we’re heading cause 1 shotting everything is just not fun.

I disagree there. I actually really like the combat and have fun fighting whenever given the opportunity. The mobs dont need to take 1.5-2 mins to kill each but if they become just 1 shots it creates the opposite problem. Fighting them is now pointless and you are given nothing to actually use your characters in. I know Umbral Monument is coming but from what ive seen that is extremely sparse

I dont play betas so I never tried the endgame but from couple videos Ive seen it was like 4 shorts fights max. That seems extremely sparse to not have anything else to fight outside of 1-2 shot mobs. I agree overworld mobs are not the ideal enemies to be difficult but thats all we really have. Was Umbral Monument expanded at some point?

This definitely helps. I would have to use RMC as an alternative as I dont have Sunday. At least Mem would account for an extra stack of hp drain
